    I bought a cookbook

Cookbook Exchanges :chef: I belonged to a group that exchanged cookbooks and monthly snailmail recipe swaps, there were also kitchen gift exchanges. It was lots of fun!! If anyone gets a chance to join such a group, it is unlike any email recipe swap group out there!

    Favorite Cookbooks

Cookbooks :chef: For me, choosing a favourite cookbook is difficult but I have to say "at this moment" it is "Mary Ann's Gilligan's Island Cookbook that I got at a garage sale a few weeks ago for 50 cents. I buy most of mine at thrift stores and garage sales and the thrill is seeing what I...

What does "from scratch" mean to you??

Cooking from Scratch I do what I call, "shortcut cooking", this is where I take a "scratch" concept and help it along. I do the same thing with the spaghetti sauce also, but start with tomato sauce and add my own meat, spices, chopped onions and soup broth and make it into a meaty spaghetti...

    Books and Movies

Cookbooks I love the idea of a forum just on cookbooks. I enjoy collecting them and talking about them, (sometimes think I am obsessed with the idea of having more). I usually find mine at thrift stores, garage sales and occasionally in bargain bins at book stores. I also visit my local...

    Newbie Returning!

Rob Rainford Hi pst1can! Rob Rainford is amazing!! I loved watching the show when it was on in the summer. I'm sure our American friends would really enjoy his style. I saw him on Christine Cushing a couple of months back. He seems so personable! Every time I see a cookbook on 'q'ing, I buy...

    Favorite Cook Book?

I don't mind lending a cookbook if it is something that I know I can replace quite easily but have very few like that, most are old and irreplaceable. My collection means too much to me to have any go missing. If someone wants to look through them, I don't mind having them take a look but...

    Cookbooks and Recipes

Hi Claire! I am also a collector. Last count was 250. I love to read them like novels and occasionally get inspired to make something from one of them. I also don't mind spills and splashes on mine. I got one from my mom that has spills and stains on the pages that she made the recipes...

How many use a deep fryer?

That is EXACTLY what I do as well, mudbug. My mom told me about using coffee cans when I was a teenager and it stuck. I also have a small container that I put bacon grease into for cooking.

How Do You Like Your Hot Dog???

hotdogs I like mine either boiled or fried with a bit of butter. I eat them with either in a bun with mustard and onion or cut in chunks and dipped in bbq sauce.

Do you develop your own recipes?

Inventing new recipes I love collecting cookbooks but rarely follow a recipe when it comes to meals, as well. I'm not much of a baker but recently received my mom's homemade baking cookbook...she has many recipes that have ingredients and no instructions, so I find them hard to follow. I just...

How many use a deep fryer?

Changing Deep Fryer Oil We go through "phases" around here with the deepfryer. Sometimes we use it nonstop for a few days and other times it will sit in the cupboard for a few months before being used. Usually what I do is: When I take it out, I change the oil and clean it. If I am only...

    Cool Food Processor Trick

Cornstarch Trick! Well, I gave it a try with the mozzarella and it worked wonderfully! Usually I end up with some of the mozzarella balling up and rolling around the top of the blade. It didn't happen this time.

    Cookbooks and Recipes

Hi Everyone! I guess cookbooks and recipes would be classified here, wouldn't they? Afterall, they are "accessories". I've been checking the site and can't find these topics. Can someone let me know if there is a section for them or if I'm just not seeing it. Thanks,

    Newbie Returning!

Hi All! I'm Ruth, mommy to 2 boys, (8 and 2). Hubby and I live near Toronto, Canada, and I just finished sending a bunch of messages to the group then realized the last time I posted was in July or August, so I'm sure not too many people will remember me. I love cooking quick and easy recipes...

    Recipe Software...anyone have a favorite?

Cooking Afficiado I just downloaded the software and tried to add a recipe. I keep getting a message that at least one category must be chosen...I did add the category ground beef...what am I doing wrong?

How many use a deep fryer?

Deepfryers I have a Moulinex DF with a snap-tight lid. We usually cook french fries, chip fries and chicken in it. I am terrified to cook in hot oil on the stove because I nearly had a kitchen fire due to "tater tots" about 12 years ago. I don't use the DF as much as I'd like to because it is...

    Cool Food Processor Trick

Hole in the FP Plunger/Cornstarch idea I have seen the hole in my Cuisinart FP many times and figured it must be there for a reason, but never thought to test it out...I LOVE the idea of adding cornstarch when grating cheese and am going to test it out today when I grate some mozzarella for my...

    Blender and Food Processor

Uses for Food Processors I received a Cuisinart Food Processor for Christmas last year. I have to admit this is my FAVOURITE Kitchen Utensil. I use it for slicing potatoes and onions for Scalloped Potatoes, grating large blocks of cheese that I store in the fridge for easy use, mincing bulbs of...
