    Dinner Monday 01-17-2011

Ground beef chop suey over white rice. I know it sounds weird, but it is really good. Basically, it is ground beef, celery, onion, and bean sprouts stir-fried together. Beef broth, soy sauce, and corn starch is added for the sauce. But I also have boneless beef ribs and bbq sauce in the...

Where have you always wanted to go?

Yellowstone. I really want to see Old Faithful erupt and stay at the Old Faithful Inn. Next would be to drive up along the coast of Oregon and Washington and end up in the Olympic Peninsula. Also, on my list is to spend a week at Spring training in Arizona with the S.F. Giants.

What Do You Do With Books After You've Read Them

I donate my books to the local thrift store. All the proceeds from it go to the Senior Center. I also buy some books there at 25 cents per paperback. How can you beat that price. Some books I keep to reread or for my personal library.

    Dinner Friday, 12/31/10

Tonight will be leftovers with some snacks. I have leftover ham, potato salad, broccoli salad, and coleslaw. Snacks will be simple: cheese, salami, and crackers, onion dip and chips, or I might make some nachos. I hope that you all have a Happy New Year's. :bounce::clap:

    What dessert on Christmas?

We tried something new this year. We decided to have brownies. So, we made a recipe of Paula Deen's called Creme De Menthe Brownies. They were very good and rich. It made a large pan and we had alot leftover.

    Anyone Geocache?

Alix, I have geocached a few times with my dad. You do need a cable to download the coordinates from the website to your GPS unit. The website link you posted is the one my dad uses. A few hints for when you go geocaching: 1. Wear sturdy shoes. You end up hiking around quite a bit. 2. Bring...

Thursday, Dec 30 What's Cooking Today?

The temperature was cold here today in Northern California. So, I made a pot of chili that simmered on the stove all afternoon. Just the smell of it cooking made me feel warmer. I was going to make beer bread, but instead I had some roasted garlic bread that I bought from the local bakery.

    Great Food Truck Race

Nothing against Nom Nom, but I am glad that Grill 'em All won. A guess I was just voting for the underdog. It was an interesting show. I wish we had some of those types of food trucks around here. It is nice to see that food trucks are not limited to the usual hamburgers, tacos, burritos...

    Sunday Supper 10/3

It is has been a rainy Sunday here in Northern California. So, I decided to put a beef stew in the crockpot this morning. Nothing like beef stew and baking powder biscuits on a rainy day. Plus, it will make great leftovers for later in the week.

msmofet, I like to add Tabasco to my ketchup. It gives the ketchup a great zippy taste. I have never seen it at the store already added though.

    Sides to go with...

I agree. That was going to be my suggestion. I particularly like a Black Bean Salad from the Bush's website. http://vegetablewithmore.allrecipes.com/Recipe/Recipe.aspx?nprid=63871 The only things that I do different from the original recipe is: I add an additional can of black beans to make...

What's For Dinner Saturday, September 25th

Alix, your dinner sounds yummy. I had tri-tip and zucchni with onions cooked on the grill and bean salad with chipotle vinaigrette. This recipe I got from the Tabasco website. It called for using 3 different kinds of beans, but I decided I wanted to use only pinto beans. I liked the smooth...

Do you batch cook in the Fall?

I have never cooked food in large batches, but I do in the winter and fall cook several meals a week that make lots of leftovers. Then I freeze the leftovers for future quick meals. One of my friends was making marinara sauce and pesto to freeze for later last week.

    Favorite Item from Trader Joe's?

I have a great recipe for cookies that use lemon curd. It is like a shortbread cookie recipe with the lemon curd in the middle.

    Favorite Item from Trader Joe's?

TJ's pesto is the best. Where I live I am not always able to get fresh basil, so when I go to Reno, NV I buy TJ's pesto and put it in the freezer. This is especially handy in the winter when the weather is too bad to drive to Reno.
