    Oh, Baloney!!!

Mashed potatoes on the sandwich, do you mean, or as a side? I always liked to put potato chips on my sandwiches or once in a while I stick french fries on one. (And I have the nerve to wonder why I'm fat, lol!)

    Hungarian Goulash

It's very different from what I knew as goulash when I was growing up. That was a dish made with elbow macaroni and ground beef. I like this much better.

    Dinner - Saturday Sept. 29?

We usually have pizza on Friday night, but ds went to a football game with some school friends and they met at a park near the school and bbq'd beforehand. I never did stuff like that with my friends in high school! We got the pizza tonight instead.

Did you see my post a few back?

    Virtual Holiday Cookie Swap!

My personal favorite is Nanaimo Bars, which I understand is a popular Christmas cookie up in Canada. Bottom Layer: ½ cup unsalted butter ¼ cup sugar 5 tbsp. cocoa 1 egg beaten 1 ¼ cups graham wafer crumbs ½ c. finely chopped almonds 1 cup coconut Melt first 3 ingredients in top of...

    Virtual Holiday Cookie Swap!

I wonder if you're thinking of Russian Tea Cakes? That's what we always called them when I was growing up in Western PA, where there are lots of Eastern European immigrants and descendants. Now I live in Southern California, and I more frequently hear them referred to as Mexican Wedding...

    Top Chef Season 3

I think that Casey should count her lucky stars that they decided to take 3 instead of 2, because I don't see any way they could've avoided eliminating her last night otherwise. You have to hand it to Dale, he brought it when it counted. It should be a really interesting final!

    Tilapia... Whats Your Opinion?

I'm in the "don't care for it" crowd. But then, I also don't care for catfish or trout (except for the smoked variety). I have given it a few chances but it just isn't for me.

What's the last movie you watched?

I saw that and totally agree with your review. It mystifies me how it could have been so popular.

What's the last movie you watched?

I couldn't sleep last night, so I watched "The Last Castle" with Robert Redford, James Gandolfini and Mark Ruffalo.

    Dinner - Sat. Sept. 22

Wow, lots of tri-tip tonight. I'm planning to try a recipe for Hoisin Marinated Tri-Tip Roast that I found over on Chowhound (which, in turn, I discovered via a link here on discusscooking!) Hoisin-Marinated Tri-Tip Roast Recipe - CHOW

    Dinner tonight, TGIF 9/21/07, Friday...

Will order a small pizza for ds and finish up the roasted chicken myself, instead of the medium I usually order for us to share. If I don't, it will need to be thrown out and I hate to do that. Dh is working late and will eat there or have whatever pizza is left over.

    What's for breakfast?

I haven't eaten yet, but am taking the day off work. I might make myself eggs and bacon to celebrate.

    Dinner tonight - Sept.20, '07

Ham and navy beans. It was just chilly enough last night for enjoying some soup.

    Top Chef Season 3

In Seasons 1 and 2, the relationship of the sous chefs to the finalists played huge roles in the ultimate success of the victor. I think if it comes down to Casey and Hung in the finals, Hung is going to regret his "I don't care what anyone thinks about me" proclamations and wish he had been a...

    Oh, Baloney!!!

I haven't eaten bologna in years. It is one of those things for which I have to really be in the mood, but it does strike on occasion. I only like the beef type. If I'm having it cold, I want it on soft white bread (like Wonder) with processed American cheese product (like those Kraft slices)...

CA - SoCal ... burgers, fries, dogs, etc.

Wow... I've lived in SoCal for 21 years and never heard of this place. There's one within a few miles of my office, too, and I've been there for almost 6 years.

I was going to ask the same thing. I do that all the time.

    What's cookin', Tuesday, September 18th.

Dh just got home, so we'll eat soon. I'll have crusty bread, brie, grapes and a glass of wine. DS is at a friend's house and dh is having the saltimbocca he missed last night because he had to work late.

    Ideas for preparing turkey meats?

I use b/s turkey breasts in much the same way as the chicken breasts. One of my favorite recipes, though, is turkey almondine- it is just turkey dredged in flour and coated with almonds and served with a wine sauce. Hmmm... I haven't made that in quite some time, maybe I better pull that...

REAL Onion Dip Recipe - TNT

This sounds really good. Are the onions to be cooked in oil, or will they cook okay without it?

What song are you listening to right now?

It's only playing inside my head but for some reason it's Stevie Wonder's "Living Just Enough for the City".

Dinner Saturday, Sept 15th, anyone eatin?

I've noticed the same thing. What bothers me, though, is the dwindling use of the term "thank you" in general. When we were visiting my sister recently, a niece asked me why my son always says "thank you for dinner" when he asks to be excused. I said to her "it is common courtesy to thank people...
