Can you tell me who all my cakes (round, square or sheet) end up with a bump ( hump) in the middle?

ISO comments/info on Victorio food strainer

Can anyone tell me the difference between Model 200 and Model 220 of the Victorio Strainer. And if you have either...what is your opinion of it. I will be using it primarily for grapes and elderberries.

ISO different ways to prepare hotdogs

This has been a favorite in my house for a long time. Hot Dog Pie 2 (8 ounce) cans pillsbury refrigerated crescent dinner rolls 2 eggs, beaten 1 cup shredded cheese (provolone works best) 1 (10 ounce) package hot dogs, sliced 1 tablespoon grated parmeasan cheese 1/8 teaspoon black...

    Freezing Cheese Balls

I made a cheese ball for a party tomorrow night and found out the event has been cancelled. I have another party next Tuesday night (5 more days). Can I freeze the cheese ball? I used cream cheese and grated pepperoni cheddar cheese and plan to roll the ball in french fried onions just before...

    ISO a canning question

Yep, Katie E., I did that. I checked the jar rims for nicks, used a funnel to fill them, wiped them down then used lids that had been sitting in hot (not boiling) water.

    ISO a canning question

I canned some tomatoes and okra yesterday. Used quart jars. Jars were hot, tomatoes and okra were hot. Left 1 inch headspace. Made sure all the bubbles were out. When I took them out of the pressure canner and put them on a rack, some of the jars oozed a bit, but they all sealed. Why does...

    Juice for making jelly

Silentmeow, can you give me some pointers on how you process elderberries? We planted 5 bushes last year and they really took off. I'm trying to juice using the same method I use for grapes, but I am not satisfied with the results. I've seen recipes for elderberry pie.....but what about those...

    Elderberry Juicer

I need some suggestions on the best juicer to use for elderberries. I am using the same method I use for grapes (heating and pressing), but it is slow going and not very productive. Help! Please!

    Hard water and canners

I have an All American canner and live in a hard water area. The canner and the racks are always discoloring. I simmer cream of tartar in water to remove the discoloring and this works fine. My question is...can I add a spoonfull of cream of tartar to the canner while I am canning? Kinda...

    Canning juice questions?

I am going to can some grape juice. Last year I used the boiling-water method in the Ball Blue Book. This year I'd like to use my pressure canner. Can I? If so, how long should it process and if not, can you tell me why.

    Brownies from a cake mix?

I got a great buy on cake mixes and thought I'd experiment with different uses for them. Cakes last too long in a household of 2 and with brownies and muffins I can always freeze some for later. Thanks for the book suggestion, I will look for that one.

    Brownies from a cake mix?

Has anyone tried making brownies using a cake mix? I tried a white cake mix and just added 3 eggs and 3/4 cup of oil and stirred in raspberry chocolate chunks. I used a 9 x 13 pan which was lined with waxed paper. The result was very good, but not quite brownie consistency. Any suggestions?

I want to get my DIL a yogurt maker for Christmas. I would appreciate any feedback you could give me as to brands to look for or to avoid. Thank you.

    Cooking in a pressure canner.

DIL asked me if she could cook several chickens in her pressure canner. This is an All American canner and is big. She wants to make space in her freezer by freezing cooked chicken meat instead of the whole birds. Has anyone used their canner for straight cooking?

    Cake Shapes

Thank you. I think I can use that duck/chicken cake idea as a pattern and use a round sheet type cake pan. This will not be a 3-D stand up chicken but rather a flat one. Thanks again, this should work.

    Cake Shapes

Does anyone know of a website which shows how to cut and arrange sheet or round cakes into interesting shapes. My Grandson wants a chicken cake for his birthday and I can't figure out how to do it. Help please! :?

    Muffin tin liners

Thanks, Michael. I just saw parchment paper in Walmart the other day, I'll pick some up next time I'm there. The liners sold over the web were a bit pricey. Thanks you all for your help.

    Muffin tin liners

Does anyone know where you can find paper liners for the large (Texas) muffin tins. I can find plenty of the regular size and also the mini size. I live in a rural area (Walmart is about an hour away and I couldn't find any there), so perhaps there is a website you can point me to. Thanks.

    "Basketball Cake"

Basketball cake update. Well, I made the cake. I went for broke and made a round one using two pyrex bowls to bake in. The cake wasn't baketball size (I don't think a cake that size would have baked well - too dry on the outside before the middle was done). It was about 7" in diameter. I...

    Dreamsicle Bars

Here is the recipe that started the Vanilla Chips thread. I haven't tried it yet. Cream together 3/4 cups sugar, 3/4 cups butter, 2 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 T water. Add 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 cup of Tang. Stir in 1 1/4 cups...

    Vanilla Chips

Vanilla Chip Update Today I went to Walmart and found Nestle Premium White Morsels. There is no cocoa solids in the ingredients, so I'm guessing it is not white chocolate. But no vanilla is listed either - just artificial and natural flavors. I'm going to go with these for the Dreamsicle...

    "Basketball Cake"

Thank you all for the great suggestions. Wow, this was my first post and the answers were wonderful. I did a Google and a Jeeves search too, but didn't find the globe cake site. I like the idea of slicing some off the bottom half to make it 'sit still'. My Homemakers meeting is next...

    Vanilla Chips

I found a recipe for Dreamsicle Bars. It calls for Tang and vanilla chips. Does anyone have any idea where to find vanilla chips. I've seen peanut butter, cinnamon, white chocolate and cherry, but not vanilla. Help please.
