    Fresh Milk Substitute!

I don't drink much milk and am Lactos anyway. But when I buy fresh milk of any kind, I have to throw it out more than not! Then when I need milk for a baking recipe, I don't have any! I hear I could use Condensed or Evaportated canned milk, or Dry Powdered to substitute for fresh milk. What can...

What do you use your toaster oven for?

Toaster Oven I live in the Florida Keys, so we don't need to heat up the kitchen any time. Therefore the toaster oven is ideal for everything you would use the oven for. Last night I broiled Country Style Ribs (3), to get them nice and brown, then covered with foil and baked to make them "fall...

    Freezing potatoes

Just buy what you need, they are a dime a dozen! I've tried everything for freezing potatoes and nothing pleases me. They are useless to use after defrosting and ruin your good dinner! You can buy potatoes one at a time if you like!

    Freezing Potatoes

I have an abundance of baking potatoes. I am wondering how to "save" them from going bad sitting around by freezing them. Peel? Cut into different sizes say for hashbrowns, cubed for soups etc, and then blanch them? Is this the best I can do? And will they be watery when I get them out to use...

    Ants attacking bread?

Never had this experience before! I put some bread in a paper bag and put into another on the counter for today. And what did I find this morning? Ants in the bag with the bread having a feast! I didn't know ants would go after bread? I've been keeping my bread in the refrig and freezer. But...

    Baked Bread Storage

Swann: Okay, good suggestion with the smaller loaves. That makes a lot of sense. I made 8 small loaves gave away 4 and kept 4 which I froze in plastic double bags. I'll try this system to see if it works out for me. But what has the 190 temperature have to do with it all?

    Baked Bread Storage

I guess I will try a couple of zip lock plastic bags in the fridg. I did freeze the other half of the batch. It does come back quickly and you can get what you need for the day in the morning, or when you go to bed. But I do think the refrig does dry the bread out somewhat. I will look for...
