    My Mom's First Cooking Contest

Yes it did! Very exciting! It is a delicious soup. Since becoming a vegetarian she has started making it for me the same way just minus the chicken and it is still surprisingly flavorful and delicious and doesn't taste like vegetable soup. Thanks!

    Favorite Vegetarian Recipes

Thank you to everyone who has posted all of these delicious recipes. Please keep them coming. I can't wait to try some of them out! In response to the people who have been commenting against fake meat, here's my opinion on it. I've been vegetarian for almost 3 years and my boyfriend has been...

    My Mom's First Cooking Contest

My mom recently entered her first cooking contest and it means so much to her. She added two recipes, Nana's Chicken Soup and Fresh Orange Salad. The fresh orange salad is a delicious snack to have on summer day, with a mix of oranges and extra virgin olive oil that pleasantly surprise your...

    MA - Boston...good vegetarian places?

Urbanspoon isn't that great. Their database isn't large enough and their categorization of vegetarian is weird. It mostly gives you Asian restaurants and fusion food. One of my favorite vegetarian-friendly places, Blue Shirt Cafe in Davis Square in Somerville, isn't even listed as a vegetarian...

    Favorite Vegetarian Recipes

I'm sad that there is no vegetarian forum in the specific chat & recipes forum. There are enough vegetarian cooks out there to warrant that. Anyways, my boyfriend and myself are both vegetarian and love love love to cook. We have gotten very good at substituting meat ingredients in recipes with...

    Anthony Bourdain

I didn't even know that he had cookbooks! I will definitely have to check them out the next time I'm in a book store. The dishes that he eats when he travels are so true to the culture that they come from. I think that's why I like him most. He really tries to show you what you would actually...

Anybody have a Magnetic Induction range?

The induction hybrid stoves are incredible. All I know about them is that they can boil water in under a minute, which sounds like a life saver to me. The information I've learned on this thread just makes me want one even more.

    Organic or Not Organic?

Farmers markets take the cake. Absolutely. Best produce and food that you can get.

    Anthony Bourdain

Does his show even count as a cooking show? Well, it's definitely a food show. I love watching him. I like how he integrates the culture and the food in every place he goes. I also like that he is so adventurous with what he eats but still keeps it in line, unlike Andrew Zimmern who grosses me...

Movie - Julie & Julia out on Aug 7th

I think this movie looks really good. I grew up watching Julia Child with my Nana and am happy that a movie has been made about her. I hope that it ends up being a tribute and doesn't try to go too much into the side story but maybe it will end up positively surprising me.

    MA - Boston...good vegetarian places?

Hi! I've lived in Boston for 2 1/2 years now and still discover great new eateries all the time. My boyfriend and I are vegetarian. Does anyone have any good vegetarian-friendly places to recommend? Thanks!

A substitute for Crisco in buttercream frosting?

Next time I make buttercream frosting I will definitely try it with butter instead. The trans fats in Crisco are a deal breaker for me. Trans fats are just too bad for you to ignore. I mean, I don't make buttercream frosting often and bad things are definitely good in small doses, but I look...

A substitute for Crisco in buttercream frosting?

Every time I make buttercream frosting I cringe at the amount of Crisco I have to use. Is there anything I can use in place of it that still gives me the same delicious result just not with a billion grams of fat? Thanks!

    Organic or Not Organic?

I try to eat and buy organic as much as possible but it really does cost a decent amount of money more to do so. I always make sure that I buy organic produce if the skin is going to be eaten, like apples and peaches. Doing it that way helps me stay on a budget but still eat as healthy as I can...

    Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives comments

It's horrible when places run out of their famous dish. Such a bummer when you show up with a craving for something and then find out you can't get it. I haven't visited any places from this show but it sounds like a good idea. I have to assume that being a vegetarian, I wouldn't have much luck...

    "Aces of cakes question"

I love Ace of Cakes. I worked as a cake decorator for several months and although I never did anything as amazing as they do on the show, decorating cakes is an art and is so much fun to do. It's so much harder to do at home without a full stock of every decorating supply you could possibly need.

    I dislike my apple corer

Every time I make apple pie I wish I had an apple corer. Maybe I will now pass on the idea of getting a simple one if they don't work, which seems to be the consensus.
