Husband bought a dehydrator at a yard sale for $3. No instructions. It has several trays and 2 temps. Someone give me some simple ideas. I'd like to start with dried nanner chips.

    Easter Dinner?

Thanks to this site, I made a 3 D lamb cake and took it to a home I was invited to. We had ham with glaze on the side, some baked pineapple, some candied carrots, pineapple pie hot from the oven, deviled eggs and tater salad. There was also a rice dish and rolls. I am getting the recipes for...

    Looking for these beer glasses

I don't think that Logo will come off. A Belgian Inn owner explained to my husband the absolute sanctity that Belgians have for serving beer in the glass with the proper logo. Don't put any Leffe in your Stella glass or you risk becoming a social outcast. ;)

If you have a cat, please give it premium water. I don't have Culligan, I have Rayne. My unit is 8 years old and still doing great. Good luck with your problem.

    Favourite simple cooking utensils

I have some little knives, paring knife size that came 2 for a $1 at the dollar store. The blades are aluminum. I love them because they are small and light weight for peelin' taters.

What's the purpose of parchment paper?

It has artistic uses for cake decorating, using it to transfer images. I think this is Wilton's lesson 1 or 2.

    Cutting Board Question

My husband the biologist says that wooden boards have natural tannins that inhibit bacterial growth. In all my long years of just doing the best I can without stressing over germs, I am happy to report that I have never poisoned anyone.

Beginners thread to learning to cook!

TURN DOWN THE HEAT on those burners. It took me years to learn that. When it comes to sea food, do not think about cooking it. Threaten it with heat. It is so easy to ruin shrimp, lobster, etc. with over cooking.

What is a substitute for buttermilk?

I also keep powdered buttermilk on hand. Just a thought, if you have pantry space for it.

How long before eating can you peel hardboiled eggs?

I have made deviled eggs two days in advance of a big party. I know the left overs have never gone bad around here, so add about three more days. Now I do have a Kitchen Aid fridge and with those insulated doors, very little food spoils on me.

Chick n'dumplins. Texmex meets Old South

Girls, you have to try this if you love chicken n' dumplings. Making authentic dumplings involves a lot of work, but there is a short cut that actually makes sense and works so well that you will never go back to old school. I have no recipe, but you don't need one. Get a bunch of your favorite...

    Chinese spare rib marinade?

I've never been to China, but did you know that in Korea, they cut the ribs the other way so that each piece has a little round piece of bone in it? They call it Kal-bay and it is considered quite the treat. Folks make it for holidays.

    Deep South Texas on board!

I found this site when I was googling for help with a cooking problem involving using a 3 D lamb cake pan. I decided to come back and check it all out. I'm 58. My hubby lives and works in South Korea. I really miss his cooking, but with him gone, I have been able to loose a lot of weight. I...

    Fast Food on the Road

Ah, you don't want to leave the pooch in the car while you eat a nice meal. I'd invest in a small cooler and do grocery store sandwiches. For fast food, my thing lately has been a Happy Meal with the skimmed milk and apples instead of fries. The dog might like the toys..

    Cast-Iron Lamb Cake Mold?

I found this thread via a google search. MOST helpful, Barb. When I recognized 7 minute icing, I freaked, knowing how much work it would be, so I googled some more and came across Paula Deen's tip to use the hand mixer right in the pot on the stove. Works great. You gas stove girls do be...
