    Fried Green Tomatoes?

    I have seen both green unripe tomatoes and heirloom tomatoes called for in recipes for fried green tomatoes. My SO, a southern bred boy, uses unripe tomatoes. As for myself, I can't stand them...yuck!

    In our household dinner was sweet and sour pork with rice and steamed veggies. Had to use up some leftovers.

    If this product is coming from China it may take months to get here. That was my experience with a different product. Hope I am wrong.

    Started snowing about an hour ago. Supposed to change to rain/snow mix. Should be a mess by the time I leave for work this afternoon. Spring will truly be welcome this year.

    Beginning canners - ISO help/advice, please.

    I usually find it in a large box on the bottom shelf of the spice section of the grocery store. It says canning and pickling salt. But regular salt will work just fine.

    Thanks everyone. The ham looks like my best option. Now what can I do to dress it up a little. Pineapple and cherries are a little 1950 so even though hubby would love it I would like something more today.

    I have no idea how many I will be serving for Easter. May be as few as three or as many as eight. Probably won't even know the total till we sit down for dinner. I do not want a lot of leftovers. Your menu suggestions please.

    I usually batter fry them but lately have been doing the three pan thing, one flour, seasoned, one egg wash and the last pan with Panko bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. Then fry them. Have been getting raves with this breading. Of course you also season each pan.

    Will someone please tell me why bread recipes often require scalded milk. I know the milk gives a softer texture but why must it be scalded?
