    Hob proof tatin dish?

    I really want to make a tarte tatin, saw a Raymond Blanc programme where he made one and he used a ceramic dish on the hob to make the caramel then piled the apples on top and in to the oven! He makes a tatin dish but its £60..... can I use another ordinary pie dish?? Any recommendations...
