    Thanksgiving 2011

My husband just got his smoker set up o he wants to smoke the turkey. We'll have some kind of brussell sprouts, I do glazed carrots and parsnips, corn casserole that every year never turns out, but we make it anyway, kind of tradition. I usually do two stuffings, a mushroom and a regular, but...

Attempting a Topsy Turvy Cake with Fondant Today

Can you share the recipe you used? I tried a marshmallow fondant once and it was a disaster. The cake I want to make for my daughter's birthday is covered with fondant. (polka dotted as well)

    Whoopsies

I only buy unsalted butter, so I use it in everything. Like Andy said, baking is probably the best, but also for cooking, just adjust the salt you add to the dish for taste.

    I was just thinking...

I was the same, Snip. No friends during the week, in bed by 10. My parents ran me around to soccer, piano, and more soccer. It was because of all my activities that I learned to cook. My sister and I had to have dinner on the table when my mom got home from work so we could eat and go to...

It's a hard balance as a parent now to make sure that your child has the technology skills they need to get by in the world and also to make sure they are able to be kids. I am constantly amazed by my 3 year old at how easily she picks up and figures out how to do things. She can take our...

    What should I start with?

I used to go to the store, buy a bunch of stuff that looked good, and then make meals from that. We shopped biweekly/monthly. We wouldn't eat at home as much as we thought and ended up throwing away a lot of food that didn't get eaten. Now, I have to get dinner on the table as quickly...

    Baking a Butter cake

If it tastes like flour, then it is probably too dry. Try adding the softened butter together with the sugar and mix until creamy, then add your eggs. Mix your dry ingredients together. Add them alternately with your milk. If it seems too dry, add more milk.

Ouch! I can definitely see my daughter doing that becuase she loves to touch things. Luckily, I don't sew and the machine is in a separate box from the stand. I don't think I've ever used it since she's been born. I'm surprised she even knew what it was.
