    Price Range for your knives?

I got my 8" chef's knife, a 5" utility knife, and a 3" parer for $11.99. They were forged high carbon stainless and seemed to fit well in my hands. They also seems to stay pretty sharp thankfully. I got them at Kitchen Connection, but they are apparently not on the website any longer so I...

    Things I learned this week...

I learned how to sear chicken breasts, and I learned I need to do a better job of reading recipe directions after I started cooking broccoli hache and didn't realize the recipe called for chopping up and cooking the stalk as well. Um.....oops?

That's fine Bakechef...I appreciate the welcome, even if I'm having to shun breads and most other baked goods for the time being :D

    Who's Trying to Lose Weight?

I'm doing the paleo diet myself, so no grains of any kind. The hardest part is that it means no pasta. Still, I've lost 29 lbs so far, so I'm gonna stick with this for a while longer at the least :)

    Santoku vs. chef's knives

This. Once I picked up some decent knives and learned how to keep them sharp, it's made a world of difference in cutting tomatoes. I use a straight blade to cut tomatoes all the time (and I'm dieting so I eat a LOT of salads). NEVER smashed one either with these knives.

    Problem

Biggest Problem I have in the kitchen is having enough room. Honestly, I lack counter space in the first place, plus my oven is acting up so a toaster oven is taking up some of that valuable real estate as well. I'm soooooooo wanting an island for my kitchen.

    Hello from Southwest Georgia

Thanks for the info Hoot. I understand about the delay. Been to Va. Beach many, many times. I used to be stationed in Portsmouth back in my Navy days, and your vacation locale was our playground on weekends. If I'm up your way for an event, I'll be sure to give you a holler and meet up

Martha and Emeril make bogus knives

A lot of times, it's because they don't have an image of who they really are unfortunately. Luckily, I've been pretty much convinced Martha Stewart was the devil from the get go!!!

    Trying to gain weight.

I was 5'8" and 135 lbs when I graduated high school and was very slender. However, you are talking about four inches shorter, but only 15 lbs lighter. I don't think you're necessarily underweight. However, if you want to gain weight, then I hope you're wanting to gain muscle. Otherwise, you...

    Hello from Southwest Georgia

Thanks Vitauta. A "rendezvous" is a reenactment of the fur trapper era of American history. We basically portray various types of trappers and whatnot from that era (with a healthy dose of natives running around apparently) and have a great time :) I'll definitely have to weigh in. I'm down...

    Hello from Southwest Georgia

A bit. I've had a lot of trouble finding events except for one locally, so I only get out about once per year. Still, I have a blast with it and wish I could do it more :)

    Hello from Southwest Georgia

Hi there everyone! I'm Tom and I'm from Albany, Georgia. Haven't heard of it? No big deal...but it IS the home town of Paula Deen, for what that's worth :) I first learned how to cook (sort of) back when I was 12 years old and have always enjoyed the looks on people's faces when they are...
