    Thanks buckytom, I actually just crushed some garlic and added to everything.I hate losing the potlikker. that's the best part with cornbread but it's just too bitter.

    Next time I think I will blanch and drain before cooking. But for now, do you think draining the liquid and adding more broth and bacon and heating would do it? My friend used to make them and I loved them but she is gone now and her secret recipe went with her.

    I cooked them with ham hocks in water and veg broth with onion and garlic. I added a little vinegar. Should I maybe add some bacon and a little more brown sugar. I'd hate to throw them out.

    I have cooked some Collard greens for Thanksgiving and they are seriously bitter. I have added a teaspoon of brown sugar - still awfully bitter. Any ideas???

    Too much heat

    V8 Worked Since it was a leftover dump soup I couldn't make another batch but adding V8 and putting a Dollop of yogurt on it when serving worked out OK. Serving cornbread with it may have helped too. Now I wish I had written down the ingredients to make it again.:smile: Thanks for the input!

    Jude's leftover refrigerator surprise soup - the poblanos and other things incorporated too much heat - how can I tone it down. I like it but is too much for DH.

    I'm in NW FL. Its 53 and is supposed to be clear and sunny and get up to around 73. Good walking weather for me!

    Thunderstorms and wind last night - power went out about 2 am - back on at 5:30 - it's clearing up now - about 73 - humid. We have several trees near the pool. I have a lot of cleanup to do.

    Fixed the DH and Spike(cockatoo) French Toast and turkey bacon. I was in the mood for tuna and had a small can with a little lemon juice and pepper with a glass of Spicy V-8. DH sometimes shudders at what I eat at times.

    Cast Iron Seasoning Help

    I have several items of cast iron all are well seasoned from use except for an odd sized one. I used it the other day and was in a rush and overheated it with a heavy coating of oil. I put it in a cold oven to cool. Now the entire thing is super gummy. How do I remove the residue??
