    Making Yogurt

I make mine in a crockpot. 1. Add 1/2 gallon whole milk to your pot, set on low for EXACTLY 2-1/2 hours. 2. Turn off and let cool down EXACTLY 3 hours. 3. Incorporate SAGE plain yogurt (starter) then set just the crock in the oven for 8 hours with the light on. That's it, all done.

    Making Yogurt

Hi guys, I'm really curious about making yogurt and after watching a ton of videos, I just turned out my first batch. 3 cups full. (This stuff sure is nasty without flavorings.) My question is, If you need a culture/starter from another batch of yogurt than how was the first batch ever made...

Do Crock Pots Make Superior Soups?

Stovetop takes about half the time to make BUT the flavor isn't there as it is with a slowcooker. GotGarlic mentioned that slow cooking over cooks it and it will if you leave it in the pot too long and 'over cook' it. You've got to monitor the process as you do with stovetop methods...

    Homemade vanilla extract

I'm one. Bourbon vanilla beans from Madagascar are far the best, IMO.

    Dump Cake

I never use a boxed cake mix cuz of all the 'nasty' additional ingredients they add. I just use a normal cake recipe omitting the liquids, (Milk, Eggs, Vanilla, etc.). Try it, it works for me, :chef: and much healthier too. :yum: I like peach too.

Do Crock Pots Make Superior Soups?

I must admit that there is definitely a difference! I've made my soups both ways and voude to never use the stove top method for soups again. Slow cooking is the best and more flavorful way to make soup.

    Chinese egg tarts

Absolutely! I recommend the recipe highly. Just because I don't like scrambled eggs doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. My post was just my opinion about the recipe.

    Chinese egg tarts

Gee, I just love Asian dishes. I have a wonderful wok and cook Chinese food all the time. I keep it simple with veggies and meat and a sauce. :chef: A little searching uncovered that one of their (Chinese) favorites desserts is Egg Tarts so I tried them. Boy, was I ever disappointed. They're...

    Making Vanilla

I very much dislike floral flavor in my vanilla extract and the reason why I don't buy Tahitian. I've found that the Madagascar Bourbon beans are my favorite. They are loaded with vanilla flavor without any floral taste. :yum:

    Making Vanilla

I have a few so this isn't needed right now. It was just a link to the best beans I've ever purchased. They won't be out for ever you know.

Looking for input on a tipping issue I've had in the past

To me, it's a simple issue to fix. If I get no service, I don't tip including 'All You Can Eat' places. Bringing a drink is not service enough to tip. I DON'T tip at buffets. A waiter will get a tip if the meal is brought to me and I am checked upon during a meal. If I have to get my own food...

    Newbee here

Oh, I'm surely going to try this recipe. :yum: Thanks, Janet. Just remembered that your basic almond cookie is also a favorite. Also the basic fortune cookie is popular too. Anyone out there have a really good almond cookie recipe? (Mine never comes out very well. )...

    Newbee here

Hi all, Been looking for a good cooking and baking forum to post in so I'll give these a try. I like what I've seen so far. I've just turned 70 last December and am retired, finely. I have no family anymore and really don't socialize very much. I'm mostly full of questions so I...
