Wi-Fi/App Controlled Thermostats - A Great Invention Or An Evil Device?

WiFi control is really nice. It's not something that I use often. Probably 3-4 times per year. We like to turn down/up our heat/AC when we're away and it's nice being to come back to a warm/cool house instead of suffering until it reaches the ideal temp. More importantly, I like the ability...

Wi-Fi/App Controlled Thermostats - A Great Invention Or An Evil Device?

Sorry that you had trouble. I love my Ecobee 3 thermostats. We have three zones. Been using them for about four years. No more changing batteries. Love being able to change the temp when we're 2-3 hours from home so it's perfect. I'm also in the process of installing them for my church...

Any fairly easy mideastern or Persian recipes

No but that looks good. I had the Genie's Combo plate. The salad is in the lower right corner and is called lebanese salata after looking at https://aladdins.com/our-menu/ Thanks for this. Looks tasty. Will try it out. I need to try more different salads instead of the same old mixed...

Any fairly easy mideastern or Persian recipes

I was recently in Cleveland and ate at a middle eastern restaurant that has a lot of good dishes. Need to try my hand at making some of them especially the salad which seems to be red onions, cukes, tomatoes, and parsley. Anyone know what this is called and has a good recipe?

What are your garden plans for 2021?

Pretty soon I will be harvesting lots of strawberries. Been picking 5-6 daily to munch on but most are still green. Have six different varieties growing. One of my favorites is Mara Des Bois. Giant plants loaded with medium small berries. Here’s a picture of one of the plants.

    Ms. Mofet's Eggplant Parmesan

What are the quantities of spices that you use? I guess for the hot peppers, you might do quarter teaspoon but for the rest, a full teaspoon?

    The best French Toast ever

I like the Cooks Illustrated french toast recipe because it adds a little flour to the egg/milk/butter/sugar mixture. This makes a big difference in the taste/texture of the french toast. The other tip is to use Challah bread.

What are your garden plans for 2021?

Where are you located? I had a minor setback where some bunny or vole mowed down my brassica seedlings. Ugh. I'll have to remember to not leave a tray of seedlings outside overnight. I also have blooming strawberries (Mara des Bois, All Star, and Seascape). Jewel has a few blossoms but it's...

What is Your Favorite Pot Pie?

Most of them are bad, especially Mrs Budd. It’s just mostly gravy with some pieces of chicken in it. Marie Callender is the only decent one I found but haven’t had it in years. I usually make my own.

What are your garden plans for 2021?

I noticed that the stalks in my community garden plot are much thicker than the home garden. They were both planted the same year. The difference is the amount of sunlight. The community garden gets more full sun. Maybe twice as much? Could that be the case for yours? I also noticed that one...

2021 Edition - What are you baking?

My daughter made a squash pie. My only contribution was making the crust. Very tasty. https://www.copymethat.com/r/NEMSUu5M4/butternut-squash-pie-family/

What are your garden plans for 2021?

Harvested some purple asparagus. They came in a week earlier than last year. Will be planting new raspberry plants today: double gold, royalty (purple) & Himbo Top (red).

So you don’t bother with salting the eggplants?

Looking for a good Eggplant Parmesan Recipe.

I keep the skin on. Less work. I salt my eggplant slices, let it drain for an hour. Then I flour, dip in egg and then bread crumbs. Fry in EVOO and then bake them.

Dinner Monday, 4-12-2021 ~ National Grilled Cheese Day

I do like a good grilled cheese. Usually use cheddar cheese, ham on a good bread in the panini maker. Tonight though, we're making an old time favorite: Better Home & Gardens - Zesty Bean Posole.

What kind of pots do you use for your peas? I've heard that you want to get extra deep ones (5" or more" for them.

What are your garden plans for 2021?

Good question. I don't know as I've been using my own seed potatoes for several years. In the past, I did order from Maine Potato Lady and was happy with their quality. I really like "Pinto Gold". Amarosa is another good one.

What are your garden plans for 2021?

That's very surprising. I'm in 6B Massachusetts and I have no issues with thyme/oregano surviving. Rosemary won't survive in my area but I think I will be successful for the first time ever. I have my outdoor rosemary in a mini hoophouse where I put a blanket on top when it drops to below...

    Recommended Food Processors?

This model is a classic. I got mine in 95 so it’s almost 26 years old. Original bowl and blade. The white housing has yellowed over the years but it’sa workhouse. I use it 3-4 times a month. I always use it wherever I make a pie crust. The only thing I don’t like is the chute design where you...

    Selecting Onions?

I grow onions in my garden and found that white onions will sprout first, then reds, then yellows. I harvest my onions in July and usually an still eating some yellows that have not sprouted by June. I have another special yellow onion called potato onion. They last the longest. I’ve had them...

Very disappointing game against the Chiefs. That fumble into the end zone killed them. I’m rooting for the Bills and Bucs to meet in the SB.

Kitchen "Candy" ~ Or, Look What I Just Got!

When it is warmer, I will be looking to replace my over the stove microwave. Nothing wrong with it but I want the ability to have a range hood that vents outside. I’ve heard of microwaves that can do this. Anyone have a microwave with this feature and can comment on how well it vents?

    Today's harvest

I kicked off the 2021 growing season by starting my onions and leeks last week. Last year, I started early February and got fat toothpick sized seedlings. This year, I’m starting them earlier and will supplement them with grow lights if it’s too cold to put them outside.
