    Kapoosh Knife Block

I bought one years ago and really liked it, but I ruined it (unintentionally) by keeping my two serrated bread knives in it. The serrated blades just caught and bent and mangled and shredded the "finger thingies" so that it got harder and harder to slide any of the knives in. The good news is, I...

    Unappreciated cookbooks

Yay! I added this to my Amazon wish list in Nov. and rec'd it as a holiday gift, just haven't had time yet to "dig in." I'm looking forward to it!:yum:

Characteristics of carbon steel cooking utensiles?

Yes, definitely dry your carbon steel pan thoroughly and if you can, do as gadzooks suggests or heat it in the oven for a bit because even the tiniest bit of moisture can result in RUST, and damn quickly at that.

Rice Cookers ... Please give me your advice/ideas.

I have the same one, and I love it. Zojirushi makes great small appliances, imo (I have their breadmaker and electric skillet and am very happy with those as well). If you want a machine that cooks different types of rice (and other things), is programmable with a timer and has variable keep...

    All Clad Cleaning Question

Cameo works well on SS, too, but it might be just as hard on your hands as the BKF. I vote for using gloves.

Will you be spending less or more at Christmas

Nothing will change this year, our gift giving is already pretty bare-bones, has been for years.

    Do you use a zester?

I reach for my citrus zester when I need ribbons of zest. I also use it on cucumbers when I have the time/inclination to make my salads look a little prettier. Mostly I use my microplane, though. It's very useful for other things besides zesting citrus (except grating nutmeg. I've grated...

    Stick blenders

I have the Braun, and it's worked great for me & very easy to clean. I use the whisk attachment a lot.

    ~Fed up with summer~

I love summer, but it's easy to feel that way because it's mild here in coastal San Diego. Although, yesterday the humidity was pretty high for this region--it actually poured rain for about 6 minutes. Ick. I also love the extra daylight during the late spring & summer months--I'm always...

    Grocery store peeves

Agreed. I hate 'em. I also hate those carts that have a huge molded plastic front end for small children to sit in. It makes the cart look like a toy. Like regular carts don't take up enough room in the aisle, now we have to deal with these extra long ones? How did anyone ever get to thinking...

    No kids, how come?

Ugh, yes. My late mother was the worst with that, the woman just wouldn't accept "no." MIL was not so militant about it, thank God, and now she's finally accepted it (it helps that my DH's little sister gave her two grandkids). Once, a woman that I didn't know well at all felt the need to remind...

    No kids, how come?

Never felt up to the challenge. When I look at the few people I know who I feel are really good parents, I see how much effort, dedication, sacrifice, money, time, etc. they put into rearing their children, and I know I can't offer that. And the thing is, if one is going to be a parent, that's...
