Making apple butter in the crockpot (slowcooker)

I am sure he will love the homemade that he won't want you to buy the store apple butter anymore. I have never figured out how much it costs to make, but I know it is not anywhere near $5.00. This year I made my own applesauce. The apples were free - just my labor of picking, but I needed...

    Canning Kidney Beans

When I said they have to taste better, I was comparing them to the ones you buy in the store. I have never rehydrated dry beans, not enough time in my days to do that, so I usually buy the canned and use them. I also am all about convenience. If I can whip up a good meal in 1/2 hour - instead...

Making apple butter in the crockpot (slowcooker)

I don't really have a recipe. I do it all by taste, but here is one that I based it on. This is what my dad used, but I am sure he doctored it up to taste. If you buy 1 Gallon can of Sweetened Applesauce use only 3 Cups of White Sugar. If you make your own applesauce use 4 Quarts...

    Canning Kidney Beans

No fresh ones here, just the dried kind you get at the store. I can get them so much cheaper. DH thinks I am crazy for wanting to can kidney beans, but I think they would taste so much better.

    Eggs in water-glass?????

All that seems silly to me. I never have eggs that long. My Grandma used to do all kinds of funny things, but she must not have ever heard of those ones! I think I will just stick to the old fridge! But I would like to see what an egg looks like after a year!

    Storing Question?

I freeze all my flour. Just leave it in the bags. I have never had any problems with it. I used to have a food saver, but it quit working. I have been researching the new and improved models, just have to make up my mind how much I want to spend and what I want it to do.

Making apple butter in the crockpot (slowcooker)

I very seldom water bath anything. I find it just as easy to use my canner. I have well water so I try to use as little water as possible, plus if I have any bacteria in my water, I want to make sure it is all dead. Besides I have the cutest little guy in the world (grandson) who just loves...

    Couple bushels of imperfect pears

I know this is a little late for your pears, but my neighbor puts peppermint candy or cinnamon candy in hers. I have tried them and they are very good.

    Canning Pulled Pork with sauce

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have canned deer meat in the past and always pressure can/cook it. I never add liquid to it because it makes it's own juice. It comes out sooo tender! I am all about convenience and do my best to practice proper canning procedures. Even though canning...

    Canning Pulled Pork with sauce

If I can pork raw do I have to add juice or will it make its own? When I can deer meat raw I don't add any juice and it makes it's own.

    Canning Pulled Pork with sauce

I really didn't want to freeze it because it is just the two of us and by the time we can eat it all it ends up freezer burned, plus we have two homes one we live in and one we work in (self employed) and I wanted to keep a few jars there for the late nights. I think I will just buy pork butt...

    Canning Pulled Pork with sauce

Has anyone here ever canned pulled pork with bbq sauce? We are thinking it would be really convenient to pull it right out of the jars for a quick dinner.

I never had great success freezing it on the cob. I always cook mine then remove the kernals from the cob and then freeze in freezer bags.
