    Magnetic Knife Strip Idea

Thanks Andy. I'll likely use a solid piece of exotic stock and embed the magnets from the back. Have you ever handled Neodymium magnets? They're amazing! I use them all the time...a disk 1/2" across and 1/8" thick will hold over 15 lbs. A 1" by 3/4" will hold 70 lbs! My main concern is...

    Magnetic Knife Strip Idea

"You could use the metal ones out there as a guide. " OK, guess I will  I was just hoping that maybe someone on here with more experience had some thoughts on how to make it better. I know many times with something basic like this, the designers don't put too much thought into them...

    Magnetic Knife Strip Idea

I know how magnets tend to grab metal...gaving it grab the knife in the wrong way seems to me like it could send the edge into the metal and damage it.

    Magnetic Knife Strip Idea

Thanks Hawkeye, I'm definitely planning on making it myself. I was just wondering if anyone else made them so I could take a look at the dimensions. I have no idea how large to make it, etc.

    Magnetic Knife Strip Idea

I was looking around at magnetic knife strips and they offerings seem to be pretty slim. A lot of them have exposed metal which I imagine can't be very good for the knives. I was thinking about making my girlfriend one out of solid wood (maybe something exotic like Zebrawood) and embedding...

Need help buying Xmas present please

Well, I did some shipping around today to get my hands on the stuff. I decided to pass on the stainless because she is used to non-stick. I handled the Calphalon products and they seemed very well made. In particular the "One" line just oozed quality. I cruised around a bit and scored at TJ...

Need help buying Xmas present please

Sage, which brands would that be? I was at Costco the other day and saw they had several sets displayed...ay of those good? I thought the Amazon price for the Calphalon set was pretty reasonable myself...looked like quality stuff and gad good reviews.

Need help buying Xmas present please

Well, perhaps I should be more specific (hopng she dosn't subscribe to this forum). She suffers from Celiac disease, so any wheat product is out, which is why she doesn't seem to use a mixer much. Most of what she makes seems to require a good set of knives and pans/pots. I've read the forum...

Need help buying Xmas present please

First off; hello everyone! Nice forum you have here... My girlfriend has *really* gotten into cooking the last few months. I'm a woodworker so I understand that good tools makes a real difference. I'd like to buy her a cookware set for Xmas but have NO idea what makes a good product. My...
