    Induction Cooktops

Renee, I have the Kitchenaid KICU368SBL induction cooktop and absolutely love it. We switched from gas to induction a couple months ago and I can't imagine ever going back. It is so powerful and fast, and simmers excellent as well. Cleanup is a breeze. Way easier to keep clean than my gas...

Induction cooktop in a non-gas region

Oops. Sorry about that. I should have been clearer with my statement. When I said electric I was thinking radiant or coils. Induction absolutely has better control than electric radiant or coils.

Induction cooktop in a non-gas region

Pugger, Technically, electric is more efficient than gas, so it makes sense that your electric cooktop was quicker to boil. Since the cooking vessel becomes the heat source, induction is about 85% efficient; whereas gas is about 40-50% efficient. Control on electric is dismal though compared...

Griddle - Built In or Stove Top, that is the question...

Food 911, no I don't personally have the Dacor, but I do work in appliances and see it everyday. It's 14" wide and about 20" deep. I'm not sure how much it weighs, but move it around quite bit and it doesn't feel heavy to me. It's made of cast aluminum, not cast iron, so that helps keep its...

Ever make pizza on your grill?

I make my own dough in my bread maker. It's easy. Throw the ingredients in and 90 min later I have fresh dough for the grill. I roll it out, coat with olive oil and toss on the grill for a couple minutes. Then I take it out, flip it over, put the toppings on the cooked side, then back on the...

Induction cooktop in a non-gas region

The cookware was one of the things I looked into before getting the cooktop as well. It's not as bad as people think. SS cookware that works with induction isn't really hard to come by, but anything nonstick is (my wife won't cook with anything but nonstick). Kitchenaid makes a whole line of...

Griddle - Built In or Stove Top, that is the question...

Have you seen the new Dacor rangetops? They come with a griddle accessory that dwarfs any built-in griddle and you could use a downdraft ventilation system with it as well. The Wolf is a phenomenal rangetop, but just thought I'd throw an option out there.

What type of range do you have or prefer at home?

I've been using induction for a few months now and absolutely love it. You're right about the response. From boiling to simmer just like gas. Incredibly fast. No burners to have to try and clean around. Also, since the elements themselves don't get hot, I've yet to have anything cook onto...

Induction cooktop in a non-gas region

I was thrilled to get a house with gas again, but the range in the house was horrible. I could barely keep water boiling to cook pasta. My wife couldn't understand why I was so excited to get gas. She didn't understand what a nice gas range would be like. A lot of people questioned our...

Induction cooktop in a non-gas region

Hello to another Wisconsinite. I, too, grew up in WI cooking on gas. When we moved to Oregon I had to use a smoothtop electric range for about 8 years. Having moved to Bend, OR, I finally got a house with natural gas. I used the junky gas range that was in the house for about a year when we...
