    Crockpot/Slowcooker Advice Needed!!

My grandfather is an electrician, but he doesn't live around here. We moved here a little over a year ago and don't have a lot of family nearby. I think I'll make some calls and see if I can find a friend of a friend or something. Or maybe my grandfather knows someone in the area. Thank...

    Crockpot/Slowcooker Advice Needed!!

I have only used the crock pot in one other outlet and it did happen there as well. So I really can't say whether it is the pot or the outlet. I do use those two outlets for other things and I don't have a problem (except for the grinder and blender that flipped out... coincidence?)...

Do I need a separate sharpener for a santoku?

My santoku is Wusthof, like my other knives. I just couldn't see why I would possibly need another sharpener for just one knife. What you're all saying makes sense. Now, let's just see how much of it I retain. As I mentioned before, I do plan to have my knives professionally sharpened...

Do I need a separate sharpener for a santoku?

Thanks, that helps. I found a knife shop that does sharpening and I'll be taking my knives there. As far as home sharpening goes I use these type of sharpeners because they're what I can handle easily. No matter how many times I try a honing steel it just feels awkward. Anything more...

    Gluten Free Ice Cream Cones

Oooh that looks delicious! Do post back if it is any good. I don't do ice cream often because I don't handle it well, but it's nice on occasion. Sometimes you just get burned out on sorbet.

Do I need a separate sharpener for a santoku?

I apologize in advance if this sounds silly, but I know you guys will have the answer. I just got my first santoku knife for Xmas so it doesn't need to be sharpened yet. I already have this sharpener for my knives, but while browsing I noticed this one and was wondering what the difference is...

    Crockpot/Slowcooker Advice Needed!!

You know, you're probably right. I started thinking about it and realized that when the crock pot shuts off half way through the food is usually not very hot. I am kicking myself for not checking the temperature, but I've always waited to do that towards the end of cooking. Unfortunately I...

    Crockpot/Slowcooker Advice Needed!!

The coils are clean, but I'm not sure about the fuse. I'll have to pull it out and take a look at it. I always wipe it down real well once I'm done with it. I also wonder if my kitchen outlet has anything to do with it. I had both a blender and a spice grinder stop working after using that...

Both Gluten AND Sulfite Free Recipes?

I keep forgetting to mention something that a lot of people over look. A big problem is cross contamination. The littlest bit of gluten can cause full on symptoms. You might want to clean your kitchen thoroughly and replace a few items. For most people the toaster is the first thing to go...

    Gluten Free Ice Cream Cones

Aww, that's rough. Once upon a time I worked in an ice cream store and I used to make homemade waffle cones. It's really not difficult. I googled it and found a waffle cone maker pretty cheap. I'm not sure if there are others out there. As expensive as those GF cones are I just might have...

Both Gluten AND Sulfite Free Recipes?

Sorry I disappeared on this thread. I've been out of town and when I tried to check in my connection was too slow. The sites PieSusan linked are a great place to start. I can give recommendations for GF foods I like, but a lot of it really depends on what you like to eat. I find for myself I...

    Emergen-C

Same here! One sip of the stuff and I get heartburn, which is not normal for me. I also take B complex and find it works a lot better than Vit C for me.

    Williams-Sonoma 20% Off Sale!

I missed this! Bummer. I did get a chance to hit up the W-S outlet sale after Xmas though where they had all Le Creuset 50% off. That might actually still be going on.

    Crockpot/Slowcooker Advice Needed!!

I have this one as well, except in white. It does run hot as others are saying, but I just pay attention and it doesn't over cook anything. My only beef with it is that now it isn't working so well and it's only 5 years old. Occasionally it shuts itself off half way through cooking so I have...

    Which pasta pot?

This is the 7qt All Clad pasta pentola. I have the pot, but not the pasta insert. I love the size for making pasta, but I just use a regular strainer. The pot is also good for making soups and stocks. I also have the 12qt All Clad multi pot. It has its uses, but I wouldn't use it for...

Both Gluten AND Sulfite Free Recipes?

I also have skin reactions when I ingest gluten. Make sure your soaps, shampoos, and lotions do not have gluten and that will help too. If you need brand suggestions I can get a list together for you. Instead of soy milk have you tried almond milk? IMO it tastes a lot better and is easier...

Both Gluten AND Sulfite Free Recipes?

I'm not sure if I can help with the sulfite bit, but I can help with the GF bit. There is a lot of info out there, you just have to dig it up. A good site with a ton of info is Celiac.com. They have forums there and often people will post recipes. There are numerous people there with...

New KitchenAid 6-qt. Stand Mixer for $47.41!

That happened a couple of years ago. I was on a different forum (not cooking related) and it posted that Macy's had a misprint. I know several people who got the Artisan model for $100. Not as great of a steal, but still pretty good!

    Calling all Celiacs!

I would ask first, your boss will really appreciate it. Most people with Celiac Disease are often left out and appreciate any attempts that anyone makes to accommodate them. However, many people with CD are susceptible to food related allergies. For instance I have an IgA antibody deficiency...

Land O'Lakes Gluten Free Baking Recipes

Thanks for posting! I had no idea Land O'Lakes did that. I've been trying to convert some regular recipes to GF, but there is a lot of trial and error. I'm not sure if they do, but I sometimes use Earth Balance since I have some Vegan and Vegetarian friends.

    Gluten Free Ice Cream Cones

Are they any good? I saw them in the health food store last week and my DD really wanted to try them, but I told her we'd wait until the weather was warm. I figured if they crumbled apart like many GF foods do I'd rather it happen outside of the house.

    Gluten free

I know I'm late to answer this, but I figured I'd post for future reference. If you're making a dip (or anything) from scratch it's pretty easy to avoid gluten. The bigger concern is cross contamination. Gluten is a very sticky substance (and often used in glue!) and can seep into porous...

ISO Gluten Free & Organic in Australia

I would start with health food stores first, they usually have a variety of gluten free products. There are websites that will ship gluten free items, but I haven't actually used any of them so I'm not sure about their reliability and pricing. I'm also not sure if any are located in Australia...

    Grilling Method, Help

LOL, actually it's my MIL. She probably doesn't even know what ketchup tastes like. Everything she cooks is super bland and over done. She gets LIVID if you ever put salt and pepper on anything she cooks.
