    Anyone made flavored salts?

I saw a segment on the Rachael Ray show where she was making flavored salts. She did a smoky paprika, chipolte chili, and season salt. She just gave a very basic recipe of xx amount salt to xx amount dried herb or ground herb. Not an exact recipe. These were used to season food after it was...

Can this zucchini recipe be "lightened" up?

Thanks for all the thoughts on this. I dipped them in flour and then in egg and water and then the potatoe flakes then sprayed with butter-flavored cooking spray. They turned out pretty good. More crunchy than crispy, but not at all soggy. The kids LOVED them dipped in ranch...

Can this zucchini recipe be "lightened" up?

That is kind of what I thought, that the butter would make it a gooey, glob of potato flakes.

    Stubborn 1 yr old!!

deelady, you have got some good advice from others. I would just keep making the veggies available. She will most likely suddenly change her mind and decide that she likes them again. There are several ways that you can add extra veggies into things and make disappear. Jessica Seinfeld has...

Can this zucchini recipe be "lightened" up?

It is zucchini time! I have a recipe for Tater-Dipped veggies that I am wanting to try. It calls for instant mashed potato flakes (1cup), grated parmesan cheese and some spices to be mixed with melted butter (1/4 cup). The veggies are then coated in whole eggs and dipped in the potato mixture...

    Why are my frostings grainy?

I have several recipes that call for cooked frostings. The times I make them they come out grainy. One is similar to Coconut Pecan frosting used on German Chocolate Cake and the other is a chocolate fudge frosting that I made for brownies. The first time I made the Coconut Pecan frosting, I...

Ideas for side using couscous and onion soup mix?

I did not end up grilling the onions. It was pretty bland actually. I used 1/2 packet to make 2 cups of "soup" and then stirred in enough couscous for the 2 cups. I think I should have used the whole packet, but I was worried that it would be too salty. Oh well, it was edible...kids liked it.

Layered Southwest Pasta salad..would these changes work?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think that I will definately add the lime juice and possibly cilantro. Just thought I would use the zest too. But maybe that would be too much. I will toss the avacoado in lime juice and add them too! The recipe is from an internet site, just not sure which one...

Layered Southwest Pasta salad..would these changes work?

I found a recipe for Layered Southwest Pasta salad. It has you cook your pasta and then toss it with olive oil, cumin and salt. I was wondering, if you think that some lime zest and or juice would add anything to this? Then you layer that in the bottom of a dish, top with kidney beans, corn...

Ideas for side using couscous and onion soup mix?

Thanks for all the replies. I think that packet makes 4 cups of soup. I am needing 2 cups of liquid for the couscous, so I think that I will mix 1/2 the packet in the water. The grilled onions sound interesting too, might have to throw some on the grill to stir into it too!
