What I do is get the charcoal started in the fire pit and then take gloves and some tongs and retrieve them from the fire pit so that I can get the correct amount on my Dutch oven.
I built one with a non galvanized metal garbage can (new of course), an electric heating element and some barbeque grating. Look it up on YouTube and search for "GhettoQue". Makes the best chicken and ribs I've ever made. I plan on trying a brisket and pulled pork at some point this spring or...
