    Wed. Jan. 13, 2016 Dinner?

I've been rendering fat from, 10 lbs. of bacon end pieces, in a big cast-iron pot (via the oven) while simultaneously cooking pinto beans on the stove. When they were both done, the strained grease and bacon were stored away and the drained beans were put into the greased pot, with other things...

    Old-Fashioned Homemade Chicken and Dumplings

I cannot take credit for this recipe. All I have done is take a good recipe and make it better suit my preferences. I'm sharing it here because we ate it tonight and it really is good and I wanted others to have access to it :chef: The original recipe comes from here: Old-Fashioned Homemade...

    What are you doing?

Mine too. The history of all things domestic is my thing: daily life, food, housing, fads, employment, social structure and values - so fascinating.

    What are you doing?

Man, you guys have some nice historical pieces. I love the Victorian era. They loved worldly décor and its neat to see the way they incorporated it into their homes. My mother has a similar lamp that is inspired by Egypt.

    What are you doing?

OMGosh, look at that oil lamp! Holly molly; Victorian heart-throb!

Ooh, that actually doesn't sound half bad. The kids can make then for my grandson for quick freezer lunches to make mommy's day a bit easier. I bet I could make all sorts of things like the snowman, like farm animals maybe? I'll have to experiment. Thanks for the idea :chef:

Well, food porn may be on your way, dear Addie. Was going to make my bread tomorrow and my littlest is at the age to learn the recipe. I was going to take pictures for my mother so, it would be easy to send a few this way. :D

    Thought on Chicken Soup

Sorry but you've got me totally inspired. I have an idea I'll try as soon as I can get to the store. If it turns out, I'll give you the info :D So I had this idea about making chicken cracklings and incorporating it into a homemade noodle (or German-type dumpling if I choose to add minced...

    What are you doing?

My oldest son showed up unexpectedly today, with his lady and their two children. He evidently expected his dad to drop everything and assist with an oil change for his car. Considering the amount of trouble hubby has had with his apnea mask lately, I'm not surprised he left my son disappointed...

    Hiya

Thank you. This year is looking very nice so far, with the addition of all of you. We had a good time bringing in the new year last night. My nine year old even made it through. How did everyone else's evening go? I sure hope it was a safe one for all.

New Year's Eve 2015. What's on your menu tonight?

Steve Kroll, your evening sounds very nice. I too would like to know the recipe. If your wife has turned into a lover of cabbage, maybe your recipe will have that effect on my kids so, if it wouldn't be too much trouble ... As for my little tribe, my 3 youngest have spent the day grazing on...

    Hiya

Happy New Years Eve or New years, depending on where your at. This is the first time (and therefore the first forum) in which I've come without an alias. Totally using my own name/identity, for once, instead of some stuff like 'Princess Zappa Star <- like that'd be the day! Anyway, its a new...
