    I have made this a few times trying different ways to keep it from sticking to the towel. I tried the beer method with parchment and what a great idea using the paper!! The beer not sure made much difference. But we love it anyway it comes out of the oven! nancylee

    Is Chantal Telavera cast iron a good buy?

    Thanks for the info on Chantal cast iron. It doesn't feel as smooth on the inside as the Le Creuset. With the issues over lead paints in toys I don't really trust anything from China. What to do, what to do. Cough up the big bucks I guess! Thanks all. Nancy

    You are right, the Le Crueset is a second. The spot is on the outside about 3" from bottom. I guess I will keep the chantal cast iron even though I can't find it anywhere on line. Its heavy. I will get a top of the line some day but for now it will be good. I want it for the NY times bread...

    It is quite heavy. Same weight as the Le crueset was, side by side. The hang tag says cast iron. Says Chantal has created a new line of enameled cast iron. I may go back for the Le Crueset. It has a 1/2 inch spot where the enamel didn't cover the iron, do you think that would be a problem...

    Sweet Potato Casserole.

    I have never had the sweet potatoes get stringy, I wonder if you need to bake longer? I make sweet potato bread and I bake the potatoes, mash just like for banana bread, no strings!

    Thanks I will try the pie plate next time. I really used a lot of bran and flour on my cloth, put the dough on top and put that into a bowl, covered and when I turned into the pot to cook it didn't stick to the cloth at all! Don't fear the cloth.....

    Made these last night for my cookie exchange today. They are great. My daughter makes them and changes up the cho, maybe red and green M&M's. I would do the nuts in larger chunks and I baked them 8.5 to 9 minutes!

    I used foil. Not the best scenerio but all I had. Some day I will find the right price, right size Le Creuset! I also used 1/2 t. yeast but next time I will use the 1/4 as per directions.

    Second time was great! I made the bread again. First time my yeast was bad so it didn't raise. Well today it was a great loaf. I used the towel method, covered with lots of oat bran and flour. Didn't stick at all. Baked it in my vintage prizerware cast iron. so glad I tried again.........yumm

    the prizer ware worked wonderfully I got a nicely browned bread, no sticking on the towel because I used a lot of oat bran and flour. But, I baked 450 for 30 min then 10 uncovered (I used foil), when I cut it it was moist, no airy holes, very dense. I guess not high enough temp and not cooked...

    I had planned to buy the Le Creuset 5.5 qt. One reason (among many) is to make the new york times bread! They say (ebay) the knob is plastic and can take 450. The bread man said to heat to 500. Has anyone used this high temp ok?
