As I recall, hog fish have a similar taste, being very mild. I don't do "fishy" tasting fish, but happily gobble down either hog or lion!
There didn't use to be but now there is a size limit, a daily bag limit, and apparently last year the taking of hogfish in the Atlantic was shut down by South Atlantic Fishery Management in August due to the amount that had been taken. They say they will be looking at size/bag limits again.
They have lionfish "round-ups" or "derbys" in the Keys every so often to try to keep the numbers down.
