i have a recipe that calls for 2 29oz cans of sweet potatoes. i have fresh ones. do cans come packed by weight usually or volume? anyone know how many pounds of sweet potatoes to boil up?

Can sizes used to be fairly easy to understand, now they are almost impossible.

Googled, as I always have to do when converting these things, and as far as I can tell a 29 oz can is a #2-1/2 can that holds 29 oz by weight and 3-1/2 cups by volume.

If so, if my memory serves, a cup is eight fluid ounces so 3-1/2 cups would be 28 fluid ounces, not so much different than the 29 oz by weight.

thanks auntdot; that's kind of what i figured, that it would be packed by weight. yes, can sizes are so impossible to figure out these days, whether it's by weight or volume. i'll figure 4-5lbs of fresh s.potatoes and see how that works and adjust if needed.
