Oh my GOD how everyone has a mysterious love/hate relationship with some food, you guys are all so funny  I'm thinking so hard to find mine, but looks like I don't have one !!

Hiya moonlight.. I had to think some too.. but not very long.. clams and oysters came to mind quick.. but I love them certain ways.. I'm a weird one, I know. buckytom made me think of another one... he posted under the "snack" topic that he like pickled herring.. I have to say that I don't like that .. not even a little bit.. BUT, I do like it another way. There is a swedish lodge here in town that throws a "Herring Breakfast" twice a year.. the herring is breaded and fried with a creamy gravy over top (almost like a sausage gravy).. I don't know what they do to it..but it's yummy!.. Again, I know I'm weird. lol

I love both and nearly every olive I have ever tasted. There is a truly great place to get olive in Corning, CA about 1-2 hours south of Oregon border off I-5. It is called The Olive Pit and WOW. I was through there two years ago and purchased four large jars - all green except for one calmata (SP) the green were all large and pitted, one garlic, one stuffed with roasted almonds, the last regular green olives. I am down to my last jar and having difficulty trying to figure out how to live without them. It costs more for postage than it does for the jar, i.e. the 1 pound jar is about $7.00 and ~9.00 to ship. I have never found any olives as good as these. Guess I will have to make a trip there soon. Anyone been there? They have more than just olives but the variety of them is unimaginable, plus small onions pickeled too.

I'll chime in on the oyster/clam front. Don't care for either raw (everyone else in my life loves them!!) or even steamed. BUT -- LOVE linguini with white clam sauce (the one that isn't really white, but green), LOVE chowder (especially Manhattan, which makes me weird, I guess), LOVE oysters rockefeller and clams casino. One time I had grilled oysters (they were placed on a huge charcoal grill, the lid was put down until they opened. Hot sauce/horseradish/melted butter -- whatever your choice was, or just plain. Yummmmm). My very favorite, though, is the aforementioned linguini with clams. Unfortunately, for some reason, the dish travels through my digestive system so quickly that I cannot order it in restaurants, have to make it at home. And can only get live clams once or twice a year. Usually, of course, when my spectacular herb garden IS NOT in season. Oh, the trials of being a foodie!

Hey Claire, I love the Manhattan myself too. My Dad make a killer one. Mmmmmmmmmm....HUNGRY NOW!!

As I read this I kept trying to think of something I didn't like. Well many came to mind but; they were all of the earth-worm ilk. Olives in almost any form are wonderful- yes the olive pit is cool.

I guess that I would say that while I can't think of any more or less normal food I wouldn't eat/try, there are a few I'd rather not:

A WELL_DONE NY strip; Liver the way my Mom cooked? it way back when; eggs up with the cellophane still on; Mutton- I'll eat it but not with joy; limp asparagus....

Almost any thing is worth trying once. Twice, your call.
