Although I know it's a long shot, I was wondering if anyone has sold real estate abroad. We have a couple of properties in Istanbul we'd like to sell so that we no longer have to deal with them, but we are not sure of the kind of tax hit we might take in the US when doing so. We can navigate the Turkish system, but we just don't know what tax laws apply in the US. Germany isn't an issue as we're not citizens. Has anyone ever done this? Any advice? If this thread gets 0 replies, I won't be surprised. We're not making much headway on getting information.:ermm: I feel that a lot of travel around the globe is in store for us if we do this.

Never bought or sold real estate abroad, but have looked on line at properties in another state. Didn't occur to me to think about taxes, as they probably vary from place to place. Not sure if you mean property taxes... I would contact realtor(s) and pose the question - and/or a real estate attorney. Hope that helps.
