Not surprised. When we lived in Hawaii, it was when Japan had a very, very, very high income level. Tuna during the holidays cost more than gold. Japanese people could afford to fly to Hawaii to play golf for a weekend for cheaper than doing it at home.

And those of us who lived there, could not afford ahi sashimi during that time of year.
