I've come to DC because all you folks are so helpful and understand the value of cherished things, so I'm going to ask here first.
I am looking for cultural information about Strasburg, Germany. My MIL gave me a beautiful linen tablecloth and napkins that werre clearly hand-embroidered many years ago. She is 93-years-old and her mother came from the Strasburg area late in the 1880s.
What I am looking for is information on needlework and skills that the young ladies of the time might have been taught.
The tablecloth is embroidered with flowers, leaves, birds, animals (elephants) and sweet cottages. All motifs are very European. Any help would be appreciated.
I am in love with these beautiful things I have been given and I want to learn more about them.
