Let's Kick off with some abbreviations that you will be seeing on the forums.

TNT = Tried and True
ISO = In Search Of
REC = Recipe
DH = Dear Hubby
DW = Dear Wife
DC = Discuss Cooking
OP = Original Poster - the person who started the thread
DS or DD = Dear Son or Dear Daughter
MIL or FIL = Mother-in-law or Father-in-law
CP = crockpot
KA= Kitchen Aid (mixer)
KD=Kraft Dinner (Kraft Macaroni and Cheese in the box)
BISO = bone-in, skin-on (chicken)
EVOO = Extra Virgin Olive Oil

What's the difference between TNT and REC?

REC means recipe so someone might title their thread something like REC: Chicken and Rice. This way you would know that it is a recipe that they are posting and not a question about how to make the dish.

TNT means tried and true, meaning the member has made this recipe and can vouch for it.

How does one put a quote after their message? Is that the signature?

Yes, that is the signature. Just go into User CP - on the top dark blue bar right next to Member Photos. Click on "Edit Signature" and type in what you want. If you are in question about what is permissible on the site please see our Community Policies for clarification.

How do I post a hypertext to a link instead of posting the URL of the link itself?

There is a little globe with the link symbol on it on the toolbar when you reply. Highlight the text, then hit that symbol and plug in a URL it will post the way you want.

How do I post a new thread?

Go to the forum that best matches the subject you want to discuss. Once there, look at the upper left of the page. There should be a prompt that says "New thread." Click on that. Put a title of your thread in the title line and post your question/discussion in the message portion. Submit and you're there.

I'm having trouble Logging in, what can I do?

You will NOT be able to post if you don't confirm your email registration that you signed up with. (check your bulk mail).

We find that 99.5% of the errors are address by one of the following:

You will be e-mailed a temporary password and prompted to log in using that temporary password. You may then change your password to whatever you like. Be sure to click the "remember" box.

Here some general trouble shooting tips to correct log in issues:

1. Set your browser security settings to medium.
2. Be sure that you have enabled cookie handling.
3. Check you Virus protection software (especially Macaffee users) and be sure that cookie handling is not being blocked there - you can specifically allow cookie exchange with the forums site.
4. When you log into the forums be sure to check the "remember me" box in the login dialog box.
5. You may wish to delete old, temporary internet files.

I know I posted to this thread, where did it go?

Most likely, you hit reply on your notification e-mail and your response has gone to the Help Desk.

Please remember that you can't reply via email to Thread Subscription or Private Message notifications. When you read the notification you received at your Email Address and clicked on Reply to post your answer / response, then clicked Send, your response came here to The Help Desk - it did not display to the person or thread you intended. To post an answer / response to a notification of a new post to a thread you're subscribed to or to a notification that you have received a Private Message (PM), you must be logged in to Discuss Cooking Forum and respond there while logged in. That is the only way the message you tried to send will reach its intended recipient.
