Advisable or not?
 A knife holded made out of 1/8 aluminum, L shape, attaches to the edge of the kitchen counter, looks like a little shelf/extension to the counter. It seems very convenient, but I am afraid the knives would get dull when you put knife in or pull out.

It sounds like the blade holder is vertical? That would dull them if you put them in blade side down. My knife holder holds them horizontally.

P.S. It is a 2" wide shelf, attached to the edge of the counter. The knife goes in from the top, straight down. The knife is exposed, you are correct Andy, it's just hanging down and the handle is what keeps the knife from falling in. It looks pretty neat. Being that it is aluminum there is no problem if water, if there is water, i.e. when cleaning/washing the counter, gets on it. The only time the blade would be in contact with aluminum is when knife goes in or out.
The added bonus is that it's free, all I have to do is attach it to the counter. I have about 2" + gap between counter and the stove, that is where it would be hanging.

Decided to listen to the advice and did not put the bracket between cabinet and the stove. Instead bought a magnet holder. The only problem there is not enough room for bigger knives. I have few 12 inch knives.

I have separate knives for dairy and meat products. I separated the long ones and the short ones

The only wall space I have is above the stove.. No fan so cleaning the wall is an every couple of day chore... So I make use of a drawer and magnetic bar for my everyday knives..

Nice set-up, Ross!

I wish I had an empty drawer
I felt the same way until I re-purposed an old dresser that was my great-aunt's. Himself reinforced the drawer bottoms so that they could support more weight, and I scrubbed and oiled the exterior because I wasn't sure how I wanted to refinish it. Oiling it was a quicker option, too.
