Has anyone ever tried this corn fungus? If you have cooked with it, what did you make?

Try a comprehensive Mexican cookbook. Not gonna lie, it's not on my bucket list, and it's doubtful I'm adding to the list today.
When I was a wee lad, if my dad found a corn stalk with it growing on it, we had to take a machete , cut the stalk and take it home and Burn it. I guess so it wouldn't spread. My bro and I would have Sword fights with the Machetes, and boy, did we wreak havoc on the corn stalk(s). No wonder it spread !!, or sent spores to lurk for next year's crop.
That being said, my favorite jarred salsa brand, Herdez, sells it canned in case you can't find fresh..

We call it corn smut in Iowa. I've never had it that I know of, though I might give it a shot if it's prepared right.
