    Making Vanilla

I hear you, Andy M. Baking Christmas cookies starts at the beginning of November for me. I probably make 12 different kinds of cookies & give them out. For the people who don't bake, they have no idea how much that tray of cookies is worth!! I love doing it, though. The only problem is that when...

    Making Vanilla

A friend of mine told me that she gets her vanilla extract in the Spanish section of the market. The bottle says " ingredients: water, alcohol, extratives of vanilla beans". I went to the market & looked & the same brand, "Badia", said "imitation flavoring". Hers might be slightly older? It's...

    Making Vanilla

Geez....my daughter & her husband & kids just got back from Mexico. If I had thought of making my own vanilla before they left, I definitely would have had her get some. I was telling her about it & she said that she saw some & it was cheap!!! When my parents would go to Italy, they'd buy...

    Making Vanilla

Thanks so much for your responses. I'll be getting some vanilla beans. I wish I had thought of this earlier since I bake a lot of different cookies for Christmas. Another question. Is there a big difference using bourbon as opposed to vodka? I would imagine the flavor might be stronger with bourbon?

    Making Vanilla

Hi! I haven't been here for so long! I was thinking about making my own vanilla with vanilla beans & vodka. I know it has to ferment for about a month. My question is can I use the liquid as vanilla extract? I know you're supposed to cut the tip of the bean & squeeze the insides, seeds (?) out...

Want to duplicate lemon cream sauce?

Hi! I went to Italy 3 years ago...Rome, Sorrento, Naples & Capri. One of the desserts we had was cream puffs with vanilla ice cream. It had a lemon cream sauce poured over it. :yum: OMG! It was amazing. I'm trying to figure out how the sauce was made. Here's a picture..... We had those in...

    Pistachio cookies

babetoo...you'll love them. They're really moist & chewy. What I do is after baking & cooling, I put them in plastic freezer bags & when I getting a dish of cookies ready, I take them out of the freezer & roll them in the 10x sugar. Clara

    Pistachio cookies

mollyanne... Yeah...the picture on his site doesn't look like the cookies at all. That other photo is more like it. They are more square & at least 2" square. They are strong in taste of almond & cherry. I know what you mean..they are a pistachio cookie, but that's how Mike's makes them. As...

    Pistachio cookies

replying to mollyanne & added candy recipes You know, I made some more last night, trying to "fix" the recipe. They still came out more flat & round. I added bkg. powder & flour, but the dough way way too sticky for me to roll, so I'd just sprinkle flour on top as I'd scoop them up with a...
