Keeping food cold without ice or gel packs

I do like it, thanks  I think nowadays with so much emphasis on food refrigeration so many people (including myself) think just about everything (especially dairy!) has to be refrigerated at all times! Ok, so Mozzarella is ok - what about the Laughing Cow small round cheeses covered in...

Keeping food cold without ice or gel packs

Thank you for all your replies!! For one, I had no idea cheddar cheese could be safe up refrigerated for an entire day. Also I'm loving the laughing cow wedges idea, and the mozzarella...though I have a harder time with the mozzarella idea.... I have done the ice thing, and since we need to...

Keeping food cold without ice or gel packs

This has been my dilemma since airlines will not let you take liquids with you as you fly. With such tight connections these days, and many airlines that don't even Offer you to pay ridiculous amounts of money for awful food...many times we've ended up not being able to eat for many hours when...

    Good Morning Thread

Good Morning everyone! Just had my allotment of coffee for the morning, and today as I posted on the What Are You Doing thread, I am taking our dc to the clinic. They have some kind throat infection, hope it's not strep! Hope everyone has a lovely day!

    What are you doing?

I've had great success just using plain old used coffee grounds to turn our hydrangeas blue. After my morning and afternoon pots, I'd just take them out there and place them discreetly under the leaves and in about 3 weeks they did turn brilliant blue. Which reminds me I should start that...

Pressure Canner for glass top stove

I agree that it might crack the glass, and will scratch it up pretty easily too. Mine gets very heavy, and the instructions tell me to always Lift it to put it on a burner, because if you slide it, it will damage your stove (and they were talking about one with gas burners). That said, you...

Monday Monday.... Dinner 28 July 2014.

Getting here late, but we had homemade pesto with penne and grape tomatoes on the side. I never make pesto on a Monday, but dc is sick and requested it so of course I wanted to comply. It worked well for Meat Free Monday, even though dc also requested Wendy's at lunch and I completely...

    It's almost unbelievable

Really?! I've known quite the opposite to be true!! My dh is from the maritimes, and even in one song popular there there is a line, "Me wife is dead and underground, but I'll get me another in the spring of the year!"

    What are you canning/preserving today?

Over the weekend pressure canned 8 jars bruschetta sauce, and today pressure canned four jars Spanish cooking sauce for chicken. I can't wait to use it!

    What are you canning/preserving today?

Well I finally made and pressure canned my marinara sauce Thursday and Friday! I am so proud of myself since I actually pressure canned myself - usually my dh does the pressure canning part for some reason! Its fun to work with him in the kitchen, but I like to be able to learn things for...

Wanted to share my good find

Yes the Donvier has an inner metal liner that you freeze, then add your ice cream base to and then turn the crank slowly. The base freezes to the sides and bottom of the maker which are effectively scraped off with the plastic paddles. From what I remember it made a very soft ice cream...

    Homemade pesto in 5 minutes!

I was just out in the garden this morning and noticed that my basil is begging me to pick it for pesto so I'll be making this today as well. I usually make 14-16 half pint jars and two Pint jars (I freeze them for the winter) that I call "Party Pesto" jars since we take it to parties in...

How long does pesto last after being made?

Besides pasta, we use it on freshly made bread, and on regular or pannini sandwiches. It's fabulous. When our dc was a baby, we were eating pesto and dc was sitting on my lap. They reached out and grabbed my penne and pesto off my fork and put in in their mouth! My husband and I were like...

How long does pesto last after being made?

I've frozen pesto for years and I don't believe it is as good as just made fresh. I can definitely tell the difference, however, when it's freezing outside in February, I promise, your family won't complain about the quality of the pesto, just that it tastes wonderful!
