Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

That was a joke. We are obviously not on the same wavelength !

Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

Thankyou. And I quite agree with everything you've said. I also have little stickers with dates on stuff.....even stuff I've cooked and frozen !! What I'm trying to understand is what controls these dates that are on food products, as there doesn't seem to be any conformity behind it all...

Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

Sure. Exactly. And that's what I'm trying to do. It's partly why I asked the question. But not finding it easy to get good answers ! If you're saying that I have to find out through experience, and trial and error, [like everyone else !].....OK. Fair enough. And thanks for your...

Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

But does that matter to us ? In a discussion about Food Safety ? I understand your point, of course.....but not sure of its relevance to this thread. Unless you have a lot of shares in the Big Business Food sector ?

Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

I don't care about that. It's the Health and Safety issue these things should be based on. Not a Company's Balance Sheet. It's opened the door for widespread mis-information just so companies can reduce the time food is OK for, and make more money by re-selling more of the same, before...

Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

I'm sure you are right, but surely it should be the 'Health and Safety' factor that these things should be based on ? If something doesn't taste quite so good, but is not dangerous, what does it matter ? Or maybe there should be 2 Dates.....'Safe Before....', and 'Best Taste Before...' ...

Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

Thanks for that. So is it all about mold growth ? And if it doesn't make any difference whether it's warm or cold, why does everything have to be 'Refrigerated after Opening' ? Also, if it's about exposure to air, then surely a tall thin container would be a lot safer than a short fat...

Refrigerate after Opening, & use within 10 Mins

Well.....maybe not quite as bad as that. But more and more I am seeing these messages on food containers that may have stood happily on Supermarket shelves for months, totally uncooled. So what is it that makes it so important to use within a short period of time ? I have a genuine reason...

    Storing, Freezing, & Re-heating

Hi. I've been taking all the advice on this topic from you all, and it's been proving invaluable. I no longer feel in danger of death when cooking, freezing and re-heating my food. I might well be, but I don't feel so !! Tonight I have a new problem. I have a friend coming for dinner...

    Storing, Freezing, & Re-heating

Hi again ! Different food, but same sort of question, so I've added it on here. I read that once frozen sausages have been defrosted, they shouldn't be re-frozen unless they have been cooked. So I have done this [ the cooking and eating some of them part], and re-frozen the rest of the...

    Storing, Freezing, & Re-heating

Hi. I'm home again, [ up in the mountains near Wanaka, South Island, New Zealand] for 2 or 3 weeks, so am having a chance to put into practice all of your excellent advice re my questions ! And because of the time and trouble that several people went to give me the benefit of their advice, I...

    Storing, Freezing, & Re-heating

Hi All. I'm back again with more questions. [ It's always going to be 'questions' from me, as I don't have any 'Answers'. Also, being in the Entertainment business, There are quite likely to be longish gaps at times between my 'log-ins'. In this business it's either 'Feast or Famine', [ not...

    Storing, Freezing, & Re-heating

Dear Taxlady...[ I've spent my life running from the the TaxMAN, so this is a first for me !!]. Thanks so much for your reply. Unfortunately, I have no idea as to whether I am viewing in "Threaded", 'Hybred", "Linear", or "Touchdown". I did actually include GLC in my reply, but it would...

    Storing, Freezing, & Re-heating

I'm not quite sure how to reply to an individual post,so I guess that is my second question! Anyway, thanks to all for your excellent replies. And especially to GLC, who, as befitting a Head Chef, has given me...er...food...for thought. Because apart from all the technical stuff he has told me...

    Storing, Freezing, & Re-heating

Hi. I was looking for a Forum that might deal specifically with all of the above, but couldn't find one ! So if there is one, and I've somehow missed it, please re-direct me ! Most of my interest is about the above, rather than cooking. The reason for that is that I can only cook 4 dishes ...

    Pizza Problem

Hi. Good-morning/Afternoon/Evening ! [I know this is a World-wide website.] I love Pizzas, [ among other things], and really enjoy making up my own concoctions. But when there is not time, then I do keep 3 or 4 Supermarket 'Ready to cook' in the freezer, just for 'Emergencies'. The...

    Re-heating frozen cooked food

Hi. I've got a thermometer in the Fridge section, and keep it at 2 degrees. I don't have anything in the freezer section, but everything seems pretty frozen to me, and there is a 'Quick Freeze' button on the top of the Fridge/Freezer which I usually press when adding something. I think it...

    Re-heating frozen cooked food

Thanks for the comment, Kitchen Barbarian. As a matter of interest, what is your re-heating procedure ? Do you defrost first ? Fridge, room temp, or microwave ? And after that, how do you re-heat ? Again, Microwave or conventional oven ? And if Micrwave, is it a short sharp Zap, or longer...

    Re-heating frozen cooked food

Hi Zhizara. Well, my favourite meals are Pizzas and curries. The Pizzas are easy, as I cheat and buy pre-made bases, and then chuck a load of tomato puree mixture on top, with a combination of Onions, olives, anchovies, beef or ham bits, maybe pepperami, and dogs left-overs. It usually makes...

    Re-heating frozen cooked food

Hello. I'm afraid I've only taken up cooking [fortunately it's mainly for myself !!] fairly recently. So I am always going to have more questions than answers ! And I have already had several wonderful tips from people on here, which have kept me going to bed happy, rather than having to...

Hi. Me again. Same guy, new question !! I'm afraid that's all you'll get from me. Questions ! [ But if you ever have a prob with your computer, I may be able to help.] This times it's a curry I have made. I made the same one last week, and it was great. This time I couldn't find the curry...

Help with New Cast Iron Pan - Bad Mistake!!

Hi Mad Cook. Thanks for the reply. Yep - I do [now] realize that you don't have to 'season' enamelled pans, hence my original post !! And although I know now, the damage had already been done by then. Had lots of suggestions, several of which mentioned 'Bar Keepers Friend', but as it...

Help with New Cast Iron Pan - Bad Mistake!!

Hi. I'm desperately in need of some help here, from all you knowledgeable users of Cast Iron Pans. I'm new to cooking really, and many people told me that Cast Iron pans were the best for spreading the heat and even cooking etc. So I've bought one. The first thing I found is that it's...

Hi Addie. Nice to 'meat' you. No offence meant to your molars at all. I wasn't actually commenting on your teeth, but on my lack of them !! Real ones of my own, that is. So I hope I haven't upset you ! I'd hate to get off to a bad start !! Especially as you sound such a really nice...
