Since my Mother moved back to her hometown
in California back in the Summer of 2014,
my Husband and I make the trek to visit with
her twice a year.
I know it should be more often, but …
I think I posted that the night before blast off,
we went out to dinner at one of our favorite
BYOB Italian Mom&Pop joints
DELISH!
The drive from our place in Northern Arizona to
the San Joaquin Valley is long, about 9 or so hours.
This time, we decided to do it in two segments.
So we stopped for the night in Barstow California...
nothing to write home about.
As we exited the Interstate, there was a huge
5th Wheel stopped at the end of the off-ramp with
his flashers on.
DH pulled up along side the rig and asked if they
were okay. It was a young couple, so cute,
who had run out of gas.
The gentleman asked if we could take him to the
nearest gas station, that he had a gas can, and he
would be most appreciative.
To my surprise, DH said sure-jump in!
I had my iPhone in hand to look up the nearest
gas station, it was about a mile up the road, no prob!
He offered to top off our gas tank, to which my
husband declined. He returned the young man to
his bride and we were off to our hotel … right across the
street from that gas station
We were so pooped, that we didn't get any dinner,
but instead ate the snacks that I had packed and
called it a night.
I had brought along some breakfast items for the next day,
we wanted to eat small- `cuz we were next headed to
Kohnen's Country Bakery in Tehachapi California, YAY!!!
Cheryl has talked about this place a whiles back,
and I made a mental note that the next time we went through
Tehachapi, we'd stop.
It was scrumptious! Thee soft pretzels,
real Iced Tea, the Tuna on Six Grain, the Black Forest Ham&Swiss
on German Rye and the half dozen assorted Danishes
(not pictured)
that went to my Mother's house.
We spent three nights with Mom in her guest room,
not the most comfortable, but it was free!
Then after several big hugs and crocodile tears,
we headed for Las Vegas.
It was an easy drive, until we crossed over the State Line …
we hit a gigantic dust storm!
We made it to our hotel on The Strip and got settled in.
That evening we walked around a bit on The Strip and
found ourselves at Caesar's Palace and had supper at
Trevi Italian Restaurant.
We'd been here before and it hit the mark again!
DH ordered the Pre-fixed Three Course meal, and I the
Cheese Raviolis.
The next night was the Main Event!
We've been trying to see John Fogerty, FOR YEARS!
FINALLY!
The Wynn was beautiful, but their employees leave something
to be desired... quite rude!
So one more day in Vegas and home we go...
Well, that didn't happen!
