My daughter is an Arab specialist and has many friends and business contacts in Beirut, in both the Christiam and Muslim Arab communties there.
She and her partner were due to go on holiday/business in mid-September. As the airport runways have been blown to smithereens, and this latest appears not to have run its course, I suspect that visit will be put on hold.
My parents used to holiday in Beirut when we lived in Cyprus - it was considered the Paris of the near east, I remember loving the beaches and pastry shops.. Then my daughter went there on business 5 years ago and fell in love with it. She spent nearly 3 months there last year.
Now it's back to what it was 25 years ago. Another war zone.
