Hi everyone,
I want to buy a wood cutting board for a woman who is an avid home chef. Not sure which one to get. Not concerned about price; just want to choose the most beautiful and interesting one - which she'll be MOST LIKELY to find attractive. Don't know how her kitchen is decorated, and I'd really appreciate your opinions. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A PRESENT FOR SOMEONE, so I'm wondering if I SHOULD BE CONSERVATIVE and just get ALL WALNUT or ALL CHERRY because they'd be safer bets. YOU THINK???
I plan to buy an end-grain board. Ther flagship (and most expensive) board from the company I am looking at is walnut. I'm strongly considering a walnut board they have which is unusually light and reddish- just like my SECOND photo here.
The first two photos are their Walnut Cutting Board. Giada, Guy Fieri, Tyler Florence (on Tyler's Ultimate) and Emeril use these on their shows. The first photo shows how it usually looks - rich, dark chocolate brown (TOO MASCULINE to be a present for a woman???). Second photo shows one which is unusually lighter and reddish - the one I'm strongly considering. I like these because they're very rich and luxurious looking; much different and more unique than typical maple.
The third photo is a Cherry Cutting Board. I love aged cherry (rich and darker, reddish-burgundy color), but they don't start off quite as dark; they're somewhat light when new. It's very nice, but perhaps not as striking, unique or rich-looking as walnut? Rachael Ray and Robin Miller use this board.
Next we have their boards with contrasting borders (using 2 different woods). I think they're really interesting and attractive and might choose one for myself, but I'm not sure whether it's a good idea as a gift; perhaps it's too personal a choice and I'd be safer giving her a plain walnut or cherry board, which seems a sure bet she'd like. What do you think?
The fourth photo is Cherry with Walnut Border. The fifth photo is Maple with Cherry border. The sixth photo is Walnut with Cherry border. The seventh photo is Maple with Walnut border. They have lots of other combinations.
THANKS VERY MUCH FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS OR OPINIONS YOU CAN GIVE ME. I have my own preferences, but I'm not sure what she'll like (sometimes I need a woman's recommendation). Thanks.
Adam
