I'm not sure if you've noticed, but at all the major supermarket chains, they
all now only carry farm raised shrimp. I'm not talking hor derves size, but bar-b-q size and not frozen bagged.
Farm raised larger shrimp has less flavor, is more blubberly and seems to be the wave of the future. Too bad.
Luckily, a few area specialty fish stores still sell Mexican tiger shrimp,
devained in 5 lb. frozen blocks, all neatly lined up together. Medium size.
Talking with the supermarket butcher, he said one reason for going farm
raised is it's less hassle for the supermarkets to deal with the import red tape. Not to mention that the local mexican/gulf seas are being overfished of shrimp.
