I'm glad you brought this one back to life, Callisto~
I ended up finding this recipe, and I've made it a few times, with nice results:
Soy Sauce Substitute
4 T. beef broth (I like Wolfgang Puck's broth)
4 tsp. balsamic vinegar
2 tsp. dark molasses (I like the barbados kind)
¼ tsp. ground ginger
1 pinch white pepper
1 pinch garlic powder
1½ c. water
In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together all ingredients. Boil gently until liquid is reduced to 1 cup, about 15 minutes. Keep in fridge.
