It is uncertain just how tall Goliath stood.
The Bible tells us that Goliath stood "six cubits and a span." The problem
is that there are various definitions of a "cubit," and they are quite
different. The usual definition of a cubit is the length from the elbow to
the tip of the longest finger, or about 18 inches. But there were other
cubit measurements in use. In addition, the Dead Sea Scrolls tell us that
Goliath was "four cubits and a span." Depending on the interpretation,
Goliath could have been anywhere from 6'9" (231cm) to over 9' (275cm). From
what we know of human height variances, it is likely that Goliath's stature
was nearer the low end of this range.
