Last year, I grew some beautiful sweet basil -- big, broad leaves, wonderful taste. Recently, I've planted several basil plants and the basil is very tiny-leaf and very bitter tasting. What's wrong?

Hope this isn't a "dumb-blonde" question.

Thanks

Does your name mean you live in sunny Florida? My basil has been bitten by the frost and that may have happened to yours if it is outside. Basil is a summer herb or a quite warm place inside (not near a window, or a draft in the cold). I pulled mine up this morning.

Basil is very delicate. Needs lots of water. AND yes, it may have gotten a chill.

Just before frost I pick my broad leaves and place them in a small plastic container...
a lot in a small container...and put in my freezer. They are wonderful to use straight
from the freezer.

Just put a leaf in my tomatoe sauce. Aria

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I live in Tampa. It's been cool here in the a.m. lately, but I had basil problems before the temperature change. I think I may have planted a different variety, like someone here said, or I may not have watered it enough. Plus, I guess this isn't the best time of the year to grow it outside. Darn, I love my fresh basil.
