    Who's Trying to Lose Weight?

Hello to all. I've not been on the forum for a while...kids came home from college and I seldom get to use the computer! Just Like Grillingfool I quit smoking--but only about 8 months ago. I went from 170 lbs to almost 200!! I quit cold turkey and have just been letting myself have anything I...

    Morels?

Leolady: I hope I remember your thoughts on freezing the morels for next year. I will certainl y try your method. I've never found a method of freezing them that works to my satisfaction. We have lived with snakes all of my life though they still startle the ^%^* out of me sometimes. I...

    Morels?

Leolady: I have to admit I nearly stepped on a (non poisonous) bull snake the other day while looking for morels. I almost knocked my wife over getting away from it. I've never been hurt by a snake but I've sure hurt myself getting away from them over the years!

Recently single: Now, I need cookware. Where to begin?

Wow, Oxford. I haven't let myself think about going through those days for some years now. You do not mention whether or not there are children involved...I had three and so every other weekend and one weekday night each week I cooked for four. Kitchenelf and I think alike in that good...

    Morels?

The morel season is finished here for this year I guess. What a season though! I found far more morels this year than ever--and I've been hunting them for about 46 years. My friends and relatives who hunt morels also tell me they found more than ever. What a great gift they were!

    Morels are here!!

shipping morels Constance: If you can think of a safe way for me to ship you some morels over the next 48 hours let me know. They do not freeze well. At least that has been my experience.

    Morels are here!!

Found 6 pounds today! We spent most of the day in OKC listening to local bands and generally goofing off. When we got home around 5:30 my brother told me he had found about a gallon of morels (and had also bagged a 13 lbs. gobbler.) I jumped on the 4 wheeler and went looking for morels...

    Frog Legs

I have not had fresh, local frog legs for more than 30 years because we no longer have bullfrogs around here. I suspect pesticide use and other changes killed them all off. In the 1970s we had very good frog hunting here and our mothers would coat the frog legs with seasoned corn meal and fry...

    Old seed?

It is incredible how long seeds can remain viable. Your state agriculture department or one of your land grant universities will likely have a seed lab that will test your seeds for hardiness and viability for a few dollars. When in doubt, check them out. If you plant seeds that are not...

    Morels are here!!

Dead or dying elm trees for some reason seem to have some positive affect on the morels. Loamy creekbanks with mixed hardwoods are my favorite hunting areas. Colder weather moved in Friday night and it really slowed their progress. The variety we have here is the yellow morel. When they first...

    Morels are here!!

Drama and Silent: I need to find a reason to visit Michigan in early May! What a great idea to extend the morel hunting season more than a month. My take today was less than half of yesterday's find. I'm not sure what's going on...maybe a little colder last night than the night before...

    Morels are here!!

So sorry, Kitchenelf. I'm off to the woods to look for more. If you are in central OK this evening stop by for a morel supper!

    Morels are here!!

I found 34 wonderful morels today and my brother and my dad found about the same amount. I thought it was too cold here in central Oklahoma for them to come out but they once again proved me wrong. 34 morels amounted to a little more than a pound with the average size being a bit over 2 inches...
