    Alcohol "Cooking Off"

I do very much agree, I would never choose to sneak any ingredient in against someone's wishes or jeopardize my friend's recovery. The chart is very helpful, so I have saved that for cooking in the future. Once again, I thank everyone for their thoughts & wealth of info. I knew this was the...

    Alcohol "Cooking Off"

Wow. I so appreciate all the replies & shared info. He loves my stew, which calls for @ 2C of red wine. I think he probably would remember it has wine in it because we used to joke about wine making everything taste better! However, his palate is not refined enough that he'd probably taste it. I...

    Alcohol "Cooking Off"

I like to use wine in a lot of my recipes that call for them, but have a friend who is a recovering alcoholic who is coming for dinner. The chefs on TV typically say that the alcohol "cooks off", but to what extent is this true? I can obvoiusly just omit any wine when entertaining this friend...

It's very pretty, so great for presentation and with the marsala, my family calls it the "drunken cranberry dish" and everyone takes some home! It's also spectacular served with duck.

Wedge Parmigiano-Reggiano - How long will it last?

Yes... save those rinds. They are amazing in minestrone! Sometimes I chop them into little bits & everyone that gets a bit loves them. I grate mine via food processor when I'm making piles of pesto. And oh, my.. the pesto on portabellas sounds amazing! Parm-Reg goes to fast at my house to make...

    ISO Stuffing/Dressing Recipes

I ADORE mushrooms, and so does everyone in my family. This sounds great as one to try. It's funny, seems the guys in the family are the ones that like stuffing with sausage, but most of us gals prefer it without. I have done one with apples & fennel, but it's not been a favorite so will try...

    ISO Stuffing/Dressing Recipes

Hello, just wondering if anyone has fabulous stuffing / dressing recipes they'd like to share. I'm cooking for @ 20, so I may make one with sausage and one without. We are having a smoked turkey, and maybe a deep-fried one as well. I still have herbs in my garden so any recipe with lots of herbs...

    Why does pesto include nuts?

Well, I've learned an amazing wealth of info on walnuts & their health benefits. Thanks for that! I have a spiced walnut recipe that I make for the holidays that I will no longer feel bad about snacking upon so much! I always freeze all my nuts since they have oils in them. When I can find them...

ISO ways to make my Thanksgiving menu a little more special.

I agree that while outstanding food is a must, presentation with some thought and detail put into it is also a must to make it truly special! I set a really beautiful table and try to make all my dishes that complement each other in some way. I know my extended family all think I'm "over the...

    Pumpkin Pie Help Needed!

So...my second attempt, armed with all the wonderful suggestions. Have to admit that I ruined my 1st crust. It was too wet and stuck all over my granite counter. On to crust #2... I did not blind bake this time (that would be 3rd try if needed) but used a pizza stone in lower part of oven...
