Hmmm, I think the sign you're a good cook is either when your father-in-law says your meat loaf is the best he's ever tasted (in front of your mother-in-law who glares at you..again). Or when a coworker says the bean soup you've taken to work as a treat for the office is the best he's ever...

Does anyone remember Lechters? I wasn't attracted to cooking tools until I went into a Lechter's store at our mall. Too bad they closed. :(

ya, Maria, P.C. has some very cool gadgets. If you want something let me know. I do individual orders too. There is another tool called "the corer" that cores cucumbers. You peel the cuke, cut it in half, core it with the Corer, slip in a carrot...then slice the cucumber and carrot together...

Kelly, ya, the article I read (and it had pictures of huge muffins, cookies, wonderful-looking cakes) quoted the baker as saying she never sifts. I don't think it's the sifting that adds air, but the mixing.

I read an article about a baker in Texas who makes very appealing cakes, muffins, etc. She said that she never sifts, even when the recipe calls for it.
