Need side for sweet pork chops

This is the recipe I am using. It has cinnamon, nutmeg, syrup from canned peaches, brown sugar, vinegar, and cloves. The recipe says to put peach halves on the chops, but is there anything else I should/could put in the slow cooker to "beef" up the meal? What sides might go well with it? Would...

    Basket for steaming rice

I just bought a steamer pot and basket to steam sticky rice in. Are you supposed to wash the basket with soap or just water? I don't know what it's made of. We got it fairly cheaply at an Asian market nearby. Also, any special tips on how to use it? Can you steam anything else in it?

    Muffins with Gluten-Free Oats?

I want to make some applesauce muffins with oats but most recipes call for quick oats. My son has Celiac and can only eat gluten-free oats, which do not come in the form of quick oats. My son is 2 and can't chew his food very well. He can't chew carrots or apples or meats or anything like that...

    ISO BBQ chicken Casserole Recipe

I want to use shredded chicken and bbq sauce. I was thinking, a layer of taters and carrots, a layer of pork 'n' beans, a layer of shredded chicken all topped with bbq sauce. Surely I'm missing something. How can I make sure the taters don't burn to the bottom of the pan (no dairy please)? And...

    ISO ideas for boiled chicken

Today I boiled a whole chicken for the first time in my life. The purpose was really to make my own chicken broth and avoid a plethora of allergy issues. Now I need to know what to do with the 8 cups of boiled, shredded chicken I have. I can freeze it easily enough, but I still need to use it at...

Does anyone know how to use milled flax seed?

I was hoping it was a flour substitute but it appears to be an oil substitute. I'm trying to use it to add calories to my little son's food but so far it just messes up the recipes I use. I need some tips on how it works.

    ISO chocolate mold recipe

My son can't have milk and I want to remove the chocolate candies out of his advent calendar and replace it with chocolate that does not have the many allergens that bother him. Homeopathy

So my 2 year old son has had a lot of digestive and immune system problems. I've taken him to several doctors and they are pretty much useless so we are looking into other options. I took him to a chiropractor and today I took him to a homeopathic doctor. I'm a bit skeptical of the...

    Homemade Graham Crackers

I don't know where this thread really belongs, I was just really excited that I was able to make my own graham crackers. They are gluten/dairy free and low corn. (I just found out my kid can't have corn either). I substituted baking soda and cream of tartar for the baking powder and fortunately...

How do I prevent this cake from sinking?

I'm throwing a friend of mine a baby shower in a couple of weeks. I despise most cakes, but this recipe was my grandmother's and I love it. Unfortunately I've never been able to make it without the middle sinking in. I want it to look nice for the party, so any tips you have would be much...

    Will my produce dry out?

I got tired of having so many stupid plastic bags hanging around from my produce. The bulk of my shopping list is produce, and although lots of it will fit nicely in one bag the cashier has to ring them up separately. I was thinking it was such a wast of bags. So I decided to make some mesh bags...

    I won again!

I wasn't sure where to post this thread...but... I won the chili cookoff for the second year in a row! Hooray! Our church held a Fall Festival and had a chili cookoff and games for the kids. It was very fun. And also for the second year in a row, I labeled my dish as "medium spice" and someone...

What makes your beef stew superb?

I asked a similar question when I was making salsa and ended up with great salsa. I'm making beef stew today and I don't need a recipe--the basic ingredients aren't what I need. I just want something to add so DH will say, "Wow, that is incredible!" So what do you put in your beef stew that...

    cross-"contaminating" a food dehydrator

I borrowed a friend's food dehydrator to preserve some pears. I would also like to dehydrate my serrano peppers, but I am afraid that it will make the next thing she dehydrates hot. If I dry the peppers whole do you think that would be a problem?

    Dairy-free fruit dip

I'm making a fruit dip for some guests tonight with cream cheese, brown sugar, powdered sugar, and vanilla. But every time my son sees people dipping their fruit he hands me his fruit and asks me to dip it. He can't have dairy or gluten so I can't give it to him and it breaks my heart every...

    Think this is real?

Blog Supposedly the only house standing for miles after Ike hit. To me it looks very much like a computer image or model pasted on top of a different picture. And the "real" house before the damage has a brown deck on the right side of the photo, but the damaged house has a white one. I don't...

    Sick garden

My garden flourished beautifully last year. We didn't mulch or fertilize because we only had time to kill grass and create garden space. I guess we tilled the dead grass into the ground. We had large plants and more food than we knew what to do with. This year my garden is pathetic. Before...
