    Has anyone heard of Turducken?

Turducken I've heard of it, even seen it offered for sale in a food catalog. I can't imagine what it must taste like...and I sure can't imagine the preparation involved!

    Freezing frosting

I just tried a new red velvet cake recipe and the cake part turned out great. The problem is that I followed their recommendation for the cream cheese frosting and wound up with about twice as much as I need! Now, I love to scrape the frosting bowl, but if I eat this much I'm gonna die. Can...

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

I just finished Black Creek Crossing by John Saul. Creepy! But good!

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

Have any of you read Paula Deen's autobiography (I hope I'm remembering the title correctly) It Ain't All About The Cookin' ? It's really quite good, and she is so up front about everything, including the most personal parts of her life. I enjoyed it tremendously

    Grocery store peeves

Nobody is intending to tread on your obviously tender toes, but really, if the screaming goes on for more than 5 minutes hit the door. Sure we've all had out of sorts little ones, but out of respect for others it is just common sense to take it outside.

    Grocery store peeves

I do understand about sleepy, hungry children. But this was at 9 o'clock in the morning!

    Grocery store peeves

AOL had an interesting article posted this morning about the 20 most annoying things at the grocery store. There were some pretty interesting "peeves" listed. Just this week I was shopping and a woman with a little girl (by appearances I'd say she was about 4) in her cart who screamed her...

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

When my daughter was small I read The Secret Garden to her by doing a chapter each night at bedtime. Your post brought back such a beautiful memory. We read a few others this way, but The Secret Garden and Caddie Woodlawn are the two that stand out in my memory.

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

I just finished TRIBUTE by Nora Roberts. It's very good --- the identity of the "bad guy" took me completely by surprise. Started YOUNG WIVES by Olivia Goldsmith yesterday. So far so good.

    Pickled Eggs

Many years ago, my husband's uncle and aunt ran a little mom & pop operation, sold gas, snacks, drinks and such. Aunt Thelma made the very BEST pickled eggs I ever tasted (and I've tried quite a few!). They've both passed away now and I'd love to have a recipe similar to hers. She used...

What is your weather like right now?

We are in the throes of the Three H's of summer in the South. Heat, Haze & Humidity! It's a flat 100 degrees out and humidity is about 80%. Too hot to move, and I need to go to the garden to check my corn, which is just on the verge of being ready to pick. Probably won't head that way until...

    Amish Apple Bread

That may not be exactly what we had, but if not it looks like it should work quite nicely. The bread we bought had a consistency more like banana bread than sandwich bread, had a confectioner's sugar glaze over the top and was OOOOOHHHHH so good! We also bought a loaf of strawberry bread that...

    Amish Apple Bread

Last year we picked up a loaf of Apple Bread at the Farmers' Market in Asheville, NC. It was baked by an Amish baker and was really very delicious. I've looked for a similar recipe, even bought a couple of Amish cookbooks, but I can't find anything that sounds even similar. The bread was...

Good morning from Sweet Home Alabama

Well it truly is a small world! I grew up in Ore City, a map dot about 25 miles north of Longview! In May I spent a few days in Murchison with my favorite cousin who lives there. We were on our way to trade day at Canton when the tornado hit. Would have already been there had we not stopped...

I'm a native Texan, too. Where do you call home?

Good morning from Sweet Home Alabama

Good morning Knight76! I truly believe that Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy. All these conspiracy theories give me a huge pain in the back end. Now I'm not saying he acted on his own, but I do believe he was the long gunman. A book about Mafia boss Sam Giancana can cast some light on...

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

I'm almost finished with Heiress by Janet Dailey. Typically predictable pap and I can't wait to get done. I don't know what I was thinking when I checked it out, but I started it and will finish hopefully today. Before that I read Rhett Butler's People and DID NOT want it to be over! Highly...

Good morning from Sweet Home Alabama

This is my first visit, and I just want to get acquainted this morning. I'm newly retired and loving it! Working with State government all those years has given me a deep appreciation for less stress! Now I'm happily doing all those landscaping projects that I never had time for, whipping my...
