    Potato Safety

If I peel my potatoes today and leave them on the kitchen counter covered with water, will they be safe to boil and mash tomorrow?

    Freezing Dumplings

I just made an overly ambitious batch of chicken and dumplings. How well will the dumplings hold up if I freeze them?

For those who have CHANTAL pieces...

I have a white 10" x 8" x 2" Chantal casserole dish that I got at a garage sales years ago. It has begun to have many "crack" or "craze" marks on it. Is it still safe to use or might it shatter? I love it but am almost afraid to use it. Anybody have the same experience?

Worst Cooks in America - A new cooking show

Just read in my local paper about this new show starting Sunday, Jan. 3rd on the Food Network. It's called the "Worst Cooks in America" featuring Anne Burrell and Beau MacMillan. The author of the article in my newspaper is a well known food critic in these parts so I value his opinion. He said...

    The Food Police - Overkill?

Hi all, I was just reading the thread on reheating meat marinades and wanted to put out this question. In general, do you think all the warnings about food safety and risky cooking practices are warranted? It seems that we are bombarded with this or that dire warning about this or that...

    Guilty Pleasure use for Aioli

I made a batch of aioli (olive oil, egg, garlic, lemon juice, salt) and stirred a teaspoon of it into a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. OMG! What a fabulous flavor and creaminess it added. I was in heaven. Try it - you'll love it.:chef:

When is it OK to post someone else's recipe?

I'd love some clarification on when it's safe/legal to post a recipe. For instance, what if a local restaurant has a signature dish for which they readily share the recipe? Or if they share it in the local newspaper because a reader requested it? Or if a grocery store puts it in an ad so that...

    Question about Souffles

I bought a beautiful bunch of chives at the Farmer's Market yesterday, got some eggs and cheddar cheese on sale, so I'm going to make a souffle from a recipe I found online. Here's my question since it has been years, if ever, since I've made a souffle. Do I need a special straight sided...

I turned Potato Salad into Potato Soup!

Don't know if this would work with every potato salad, but it's worth a shot. My nephew-in-law made a sort of German potato salad with onions, oil and vinegar. There was a lot left over so I thought I'd give it shot making potato soup. I sauteed more onions in bacon grease, added a couple...

    Need advice from Moms!

Hi all, I could post this on a more appropriate forum but I feel I have friends here. Here's the deal. I'm flying to Toronto tomorrow to help my niece with her new baby boy. She had a difficult birth, 2 episiotomies and the baby has jaundice. She is exhausted and overwhelmed, as is her...

    Saline Injected Meat

This is driving me crazy and I wonder if anyone else has a problem with it. More and more I go to the supermarkets and find meat - pork, chicken, turkey, maybe beef but I haven't checked, that has been injected with a saline "enhancement" solution for "better flavor" and "moister meat". I HATE...

    ISO Shrimp Chowder Recipe

Many years ago I lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. There was a restaurant there called Bratten's Seafood which I believe is now closed. They had the best Shrimp Chowder and I have been unable to find the recipe for it or anything similar. It had a tomato base, potatoes and shrimp, probably celery...

    MexicoKaren's Terrible Loss...

Hi everyone, This is Mexico Karen's friend Laury here in Bucerias, Mexico. It's too hard for her to share this so I'm going to do it for her. Over the weekend somebody threw some poisoned fish into their yard which killed all three of their dogs. Blondie, Dagwood and Bob died almost...

    Hola from Bucerias, Mexico

Hi all! I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I'm 58 and just moved to Mexico from Portland, Oregon about 6 weeks ago. I'm a foodie from way back. The hot humid weather here combined with a little culture shock have thrown me off my game a bit, but I hope to recover with the help of...
