What's to eat for Wednesday? (1st May)

We were at Loverly's apartment today, boxing stuff up to go to the thrift shop or our place. Tossed a bunch of stuff, too. Himself made a run for broasted chicken and jo-jo potatoes. We have a good amount leftover, some of which will be appearing in a pot pie later this week.

Tuesday, April 30, 2024: What did you eat to celebrate GW's inauguration as first US Pres in 1789?

Today (Tuesday) might have been our last "soup day" before warm weather moves in for the next six months. I had all the fixings for a pot of Italian sausage and white bean soup, so that's what we had - with homemade bread. There's about a quart left. Do I save it for us, or give it to Loverly...

    Club soda

I use club soda when I need to blot up wine spills on fabric or carpets. 🤭

    The Sick Room

Good news, casey! Himself was amazed that he was able to easily see lesser magnitude stars the night of his first eye surgery. Since both eyes were done, nothing gets past him. Unless it's cleaning up after himself.

    Tips for using your microwave

I now call my microwave my "proofing box" ever since the first time I tried @Katie H's suggestion. :) @dragnlaw I put a half cup of water in a 1-cup oval measuring cup. I easily fit my larger bread pan in my microwave longway, but could get two smaller ones in if they were front-to-back longways.

Monday's late tax not done supper for the 29th of April, '24

Freezer meal here, too. I pulled the container of Salsa chicken from the freezer for Friday supper. When I sprained my ankle on Friday, I didn't want to bother with anything. Finally made rice to go with the chicken tonight after three nights of (mostly) Himself suppers.

Saturday, April 27, 2024, what are you eating?

@blissful. I once had a T-shirt iron-on patch that said "Life is uncertain, eat dessert first". Never made the shirt, but I made that saying a motto. 😆 We had leftover pizza. Himself ran out for pizza and a steak sub sandwich yesterday...shortly after I sprained my ankle/foot. I'm limping like...

    What's for dinner Thursday, April 25, 2024?

We finished up bits and bobs (another British phrase? 😁) of leftovers. When we lived in MA, we were surprised at how many Britophiles there were. Never figured out the fascination with all things British. Hadn't these people heard that we fought the British to establish our own country and...

2024 Edition - What are you baking?

@pepperhead212, I don't remember where I read it, but supposedly using cooled potato water in your bread keeps it fresh longer. 🤷‍♀️

Best store bought macaroni and cheese

We were a Stouffers family, especially since their outlet store was about 5 miles from my folks' home. However, I grabbed a tub of macaroni and cheese from the fresh food case at Aldi during our moving time. It's a very, very close second to Stouffers but cheaper ounce to ounce. It's my go-to...

    What Are Your Other Interests?

Like @Kathleen, I like saving/collecting old china, and using it, too. I have many of my Mom's small serving plates, German crystal glasses, Vaseline glass, teacups and saucers, vintage towels, potholders, and aprons. Most everything gets used in a rotation. A few pieces of our furniture were...

What did you eat on Monday, April 22, 2024?

It was another "kiss the cook" meal tonight. A quick and easy one, too, since we did some yard work this afternoon. We had "Chlopski Posilek", which is cabbage, onion, bacon, and smoked sausage. What's not to like! And a link to the recipe...

    The Sick Room

I've started massaging my feet at bedtime if I have been standing a lot during the day, @dragnlaw. It does seem to prevent foot cramps most of the time. And while most leg cramps are during the night, I have gotten them when sitting too much, like while riding in the car or sitting in a...

Kitchen "Candy" ~ Or, Look What I Just Got!

We took a ride down to Amish Country on Friday to get cheese, flour, and spices. Also came home with a couple of kitchen goodies. I bought two new silicone pan covers seeing as how I still haven't unpacked mine from MA. I wouldn't be surprised if the movers forgot to get them off the interior of...

@dragnlaw, I have found that a Magnesium tablet usually takes care of my leg cramps which are the Charlie horse variety. Maybe it would help with your leg cramps.

What did you eat Sunday, April 21, 2024?

I made a real supper tonight after easy meals Friday (Naan bread pizzas) and Saturday (pan fried onions, hot dogs, and potatoes). It's been a long time since I made stuffed pork chops; Himself said that they were delicious. Served with buttered green beans. Mini éclairs from Aldi for dessert.

Wednesday, April 17. What (and where) are you eating.

Tonight's meal was a mash-up of leftovers from eating out, some fresh produce, and Aldi favorites. We had a couple of Applebee's riblets and some French fries. To that I added Aldi mac-and-cheese and Pork Burnt Ends. I also cooked up some fresh green beans, and sautéed apples in butter with a...

Wednesday 2024 April 10, what was your supper?

I grocery shopped on Wednesday. Came home tired. After putting the perishables away, I plopped on the futon. Himself suggested that he run out to get something, but we couldn't figure out what we wanted! Honestly, if I had cereal in the house it might have been supper. 😂 We took so long...

What are you eating Thursday, April 11, 2024?

Pulled out the Wok from the cabinet next to the stove (instead of needing to go down the basement to get it -  love all of my cupboard space!) and made beef and broccoli. I planned for leftovers. Himself foiled my plan. It's gone.

What did you eat Sunday, April 7, 2024?

I made burgers in my big cast iron skillet on my largest burner. Nice crust on the outside, nice pink inside. Ran the fan over the stove. No smoke inside, no fire truck outside. 😆 Sides were tots, and tomatoes and corn with Tajin.

    Going MIA

I just got a request from @taxlady to let you all know that her dear Stirling passed away today. She said that she will be back after she has a bit of time to adjust to the shock. Keep her in your thoughts and/or prayers. We'll probably see her back here in a week or two.

April 4, 2024, Thursday, what did you eat?

I had not used my Wok for ages because it never worked good on my glass top stove. Plus, I was always afraid of causing scratches. I made Chinese food tonight - chicken cashew with vegetables. Big gas burner+carbon steel wok=love! Need to refine my skills again...
