    Stock vs. Broth

I am doing some investigating about stocks and broths. I came across an older thread on this site and it was very helpful but I am still a bit confused. It seems as though a stock is made from meat, bones and even vegetables if a veggie stock is needed. A stock is made by cooking for a long...

    Sticky Cupcakes

I have a base recipe that works well and the cake turns out moist and fluffy enough. When I add other ingredients to add the flavor I want, it goes amuck. I started with an egg, 1/3c. applesauce, cinnamon, sugar, 1/2 tsp. baking powder a pinch of salt and 3/4 c. flour. I baked one cupcake...

    Moisture in Cake

I have a recipe for chocolate cake that is good but I have a problem. It turns out nice and moist when I use oil but I prefer the flavor when I use butter. Is there a way to get a nice moist chocolate cake from scratch with the equivalent of oil using butter? Should I use extra butter...

    Grilling Sweet Potatoes

I am trying to expand my grilling experience so I grilled tofu and some veggies. I learned some new things today but one thing I need some advice on is this: is it better to boil sweet potatoes before grilling them? Or roast them in the oven? After peeling and cutting some sweet potatoes, I...

    Substitutions, True Story & Conversions

Have you ever wanted to make something so bad, but not have everything you need and really not want to go to the store? Did it miraculously work out or did it end in disaster? I am baking a carrot cake and I discovered that I have no more granulated sugar. But wait! I found sugar cubes in...

    I like M & M's New Flavors

Although limited edition from what I understand, I like the new flavors that M & M's have been putting out there. I'm not talking about the "Premuims" in the tall curvy boxes I'm talking about the Strawberried Peanut Butter, Coconut and Pretzel M & M's. Is it just me or are these flavors fun...

    Saving Seeds

My family and I moved from a duplex into our own home recently and we have a yard for a garden! I am so excited because I haven't had a garden in years. The kids and I are going to be growing tomatoes, zuccinni, cilantro and sunflowers. For tomatoes I have chosen romas and heirloom rainbow...

    ISO Vegan sauce help

Has anyone ever successfully made a white sauce or any cream sauce using soy milk, almond milk or anything along those lines? I am looking for a vegan sauce idea for pouring over sauted or steamed veggies. I have no experience with cooking using milk alternatives for sauce bases. Thank you!

Hi from new member in Washington state.

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to the group! I really really love too cook and bake as well. I really love classic recipes that use good old fashioned things like butter and real eggs but I'm also open to some new ideas on more nutritional but still good-tasting ideas.
